Get your site online as cheap and quick as possible! Tons of people have asked me "how do I get my site online"? And here's how.
I recommend HostGator (http://bit.ly/1UCHuf4), since they have the best customer service as well as the best price. For $6/mo, you get unlimited domains/websites, so if you're building websites for other people, you can bill them monthly and not have any expenses increase.
All you need is a
Domain Name: $12/yr
I recommend HostGator (http://bit.ly/1UCHuf4)
Free FTP Program:
I recommend Cyberduck (http://cyberduck.io/)
We're going to get a webhost & domain, open an FTP connection to it, upload our files to our webhost, and then we're done!
Also watch: "Responsive Design Tutorial - Tips for making web sites look great on any device"
For those of you who are watching now and having issue getting your site online(like myself) after following the video, I'd like to mention a few things.
1) if www doesn't exist, use public_ html folder
2) if you can't reach your site using, ip-address/~use , or just 403 error forbidden:
This happened to me because I bought my domain name from a different website(Domain.com) than my hosting service(HostGator). If you're having the same issue, you have to go to your domain website -> click Manage -> find "DNS and Nameservers" and add your "1st Nameserver" and "2nd Nameserver" (given to you by your host service provider like Hostgator).
Hey a few questions for you if you are still doing coding.
First, how would you code a site so the domain name automatically shows if it is rights reserved:
"Domain must be in the same format as site name, no edits, at no cost."
But the web host refuses to honor that right, and ICANN won't do anything?
Second, wix.com got a coding program.
Could you do a tutorial on?
fixing the design flaws in
Wix Photo Albums (Not the Pro gallery Panel system)
Features that need to be re-coded.

disable group download
password protect and show passed words in the database collections

Code member and admin pages for wix photo albums,
require submission of id to admin eyes only database before downloading of wix photo albums content.
Yes, Squarespace and wix aren't as customizable as you making your website from scratch, obviously both platforms have limits to what they can do unlike you making everything in your website (which is obviously more time consuming and requires more programming knowledge). I don't know for squarespace when it comes to migrating the code but I remeber wix being kinda difficult (I don't know if they made it easier lately or even removed the very few things that let migrate your code previousy)
Regi thanks! That’s clearer now. But am I right to assume wix/ss aren’t as customisable as me coding my own website? And if I build a website on wix for eg, in the future if I want more customised stuff it would be difficult to migrate the code base out of the wix platform?
Wix and square space are basically paltforms to build a website, they are not web hosts (can't talk for squarespace much but I used wix a lot in the past before i started to learn programming). If you need a website without having to learn to code you should just use wix or squarespace, they are fast, convinient and relatively cheap. they are good if you need a site quickly just to put images and videos but they are not the same as programming.
hosts like hostgator allows you to buy a site name and a figurative space on a server where you can put you website in (which you code before-hand).
if you don't want to learn to code but need a website wix and squarespace are for you, there are many youtubers that offer coupon codes to make it even cheaper (just look around on the web, you'l surely find them)
if a bought a name through namecheap but want to host it through host gator and build and upload it on squarespace... can i do that? Im already building on squarespace and bought the name on namecheap but i dont know where to host it... any help would be so much appreciated! Ive been stuck here so long
I tried hostgator like 5 years ago, really bad experience, and no the customer service was not good. Have not had any reason to give them another chance. Enjoy your affiliate referral payments though for recommending them...
I could not find the www folder
so by mistake I entered to the public_html folder and deleted all its files except cgi.bin
the I created a new folder called www and upload files to it but when tried to access server_ip/~username it shows me error 404 page not found
Any help pleaaase ??
4:35 you can't connect any other way? Do you have to use a 3rd party ftp? Can this be done natively on win10 w/ git-bash? Can it be done in the browser?
I understand your example of why you're using cyberduck because of propagation (it's kind of similar when using github pages)
But can you just upload files via command line ?
Idk I'm having trouble understanding the WHY and HOW of uploading files via ftp, instead of just doing in the normal way (given you're not using the control panel because it hasn't been propagated yet)

Hi! Quick question: I just registered with Hostgator and uploaded all my files using Filezilla. Whenever I tried the IPEXAMPLE/~USERNAME/ it gave me an error 404. Same thing with my actual domain. Is there something wrong? Or do I just need to wait?
Yes! But if you are a newbie and want to put your site online just for fun, you can try some free domains like .tk, .ml, .ga etc you can get these domains at http://www.freenom.com and for free hosting, I recommend https://infinityfree.net/ you can get a free domain (sitename.rf.gd) too at infinityfree. Enjoy :D
Thanks for the video, this was exactly what I was looking for. I have some questions tho, does the server get lag or some kind of delay, or any issue according to the number of websites I host? Is there a max number of web pages I can host with the baby plan?
I'm getting a bunch of spam calls from "web designers". I don't know if this was a problem 3 years ago, when this video was made, but I'm getting spam emails, calls and texts. Please make an updated video, or a solution to avoid these problems for others in the future.
Yes, for sure. Their shared and cloud hosting can support PHP and Ruby on Rails, their VPS and dedicated server can support Node.js, Java or any other backend technology as you essentially own a server all to yourself.

As a child, there was a portrait in our family home in Paris that I always loved. Today, it’s known as Maya with Doll – but to me it was just a portrait of my mother, albeit a remarkable one. “Your grandfather was a painter,” she would say, whenever the subject of the canvas, one of many that hung around the house, came up in discussion. It was only when I began school, and whispers about my heritage started to follow me, that I realised what an understatement that was. My grandfather was far more than a painter. He was the defining figure of 20th-century art – and, as I would learn later from years of academic study, a true genius. It was a revelation that would shape the course of my life in many ways. When Picasso died – in 1973, the year before I was born – he left behind 45,000 works, not to mention personal objects and correspondence.
