In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.
Based on the beloved children’s classic written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House with a Clock in Its Walls is directed by master frightener Eli Roth and written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s Supernatural). Co-starring Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic, it is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke.
Executive produced by William Sherak, Tracey Nyberg and Laeta Kalogridis, The House with a Clock in Its Walls will be released by Universal Pictures.
This is based off of John Bellairs book of the same name. I used to love reading his books as a kid. they were soooo scary. I read the book 28 years ago!!! They finally make a film of it:) I'm telling my age lol. Who besides me has read the book many years ago?
Universal is being smart. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter could get outdated. This movie seems like the *PERFECT* IP to replace the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with without changing the land too much!
This book (early 70s) partly inspired the Potter novels. The boy is 10; Harry is 11. Both are orphans. The story opens with the boy riding a bus to his wizard uncle's house; HP rides a train to a wizarding school. The boy goes to live w/his uncle; HP goes to live with uncle & aunt. The kid's uncle turns out to be a wizard; HP turns out to be a wizard. The uncle & the witch who's his best friend are the template for Dumbledore & McGonagall. Best of all, the paintings in the uncle's house move, like the pix in the "Daily Prophet."
The book always seemed interesting to me, though I never got around to reading it. Which is a real pity because it seems exactly like the kind of thing I would have loved as a kid. I usually hate reading books only because of a movie adaptation, but I'll definitely be looking for a copy in the future.
Any fans of the Supernatural series, this is a must see for you. its made by Eric Kripke, and he stated on twitter, "Oh, and #spn fans: as time goes on, I'll start dropping clues to the TONS of #Supernatural easter eggs I wrote into the movie! If you're a fan of the show, this movie is our origin story, required viewing! #spnfamily" You herd the man, get on it
I am excited but it's too harry potterish. The original story had this really old world charm about it...The house was mostly dim and very quiet . There was a sense that time was being held hostage there.
Sechskies Eun Ji Won and rookie singers Lee Soo Hyun and Kim Eun Bi performed the third OST single titled "Love Song". The rookies, who are both training to debut in HYWY Entertainments girl group HYWY Girls, joined the veteran to sing about falling in love with an unlikely person. The rhythmic medium temp track is the perfect tune to make your spring days even brighter.
As a child, there was a portrait in our family home in Paris that I always loved. Today, it’s known as Maya with Doll – but to me it was just a portrait of my mother, albeit a remarkable one. “Your grandfather was a painter,” she would say, whenever the subject of the canvas, one of many that hung around the house, came up in discussion. It was only when I began school, and whispers about my heritage started to follow me, that I realised what an understatement that was. My grandfather was far more than a painter. He was the defining figure of 20th-century art – and, as I would learn later from years of academic study, a true genius. It was a revelation that would shape the course of my life in many ways. When Picasso died – in 1973, the year before I was born – he left behind 45,000 works, not to mention personal objects and correspondence.
