I will be at POCONO SPEEDWAY this weekend Aug 4th and 5th for some drifting so come by and say hello and maybe even come for a ride along!!! I worked hard to make this fix as simple and cheap as possible so anyone can do this at home! If I can cut a hole in my exhaust the size of a playing card, you can fix your small leak! Here is what I used: Exhaust Putty: https://amzn.to/2vaDye2 Exhaust Tape: https://amzn.to/2MakvqN Exhaust Clamp: https://amzn.to/2n4X9b7 Sandpaper (100 grit): https://amzn.to/2KfXwsw Shop Vac: https://amzn.to/2AySXdc Electric Leaf Blower: https://amzn.to/2n5nOoc

Used that putty once, worked decent but broke pretty fast, honestly I would buy a new manifold, preventative maintenance
lobo00712 (7 hours ago)
I was wondering about that. He describes the putty as becoming harder than steel, but is it stronger than steel, or even steel weldings? I highly doubt that. In my case, the exhaust pipe is completely cracked and separated right before the catalytic converter (not near the manifold, but still near the front of the vehicle. Will that putty even connect and hold a completely separated pipe together for the long haul? I suppose i could use the tape, but the example he used was for covering a big hole, not reconnecting essentially a pipe that basically cracked and separated into two pipes/pieces. I don't think you would wrap the pipe the same way (like electrical tape) he described...

@ChrisFix - Could I use a hair dryer to blow air into my exhaust (on the cool setting) and a vacuum cleaner to pull air through the exhaust system or would these not be sufficient or cause possible damage to the hairdryer / vacuum? love your videos man! thanks.
1dozmos (5 hours ago)
I tried to do this with a hair dryer instead of a shop vac/ leaf blower.... hairdryer burnt out within 2 minutes lol. Stumpt now

Will the clamp hold together an area of the exhaust that’s rusted? I don’t plan on keeping my daily beater for more than a year so I don’t want to spend too much money on it
lobo00712 (3 days ago)
The shop vac you link to is quite different than the one used in the video. The one linked (Armor All) is only 2.5 gallon capacity with 2 peak HP vs. the 4 gallon unit (Ridgid) with 5 peak HP in the video. Which the weaker vacuum get the job done just as well?
Parmeet Khangura (3 days ago)
The lights in the mustang looked awesome u should get them for ur mustang
lobo00712 (3 days ago)
So instead of a blow torch and other welding equipment and skills, you just need a heat gun, a plasma cutter, a leaf blower and an industrial shop vac...
Razaah Omerta (6 hours ago)
+lobo00712 You need none of these tools to do the job its simply to make it easier, you can find a leak by listening where its at and then getting a piece of paper or something and holding it close to see if exhaust is exiting that area. Then you go buy the fix you need, exhaust putty is roughly 10 dollars that's literally all you would need to spend, and a set of ramps are like 60 if by some miracle you dont know someone with them or find them at a yard sale for cheap. Idk why you think you need so much to do this its literally made to be easy and cheap for an average person.
lobo00712 (7 hours ago)
+Razaah Omerta Have you ever heard of tongue in cheek? Then again, i wasn't being entirely facetious. If you had to pay for all the items that he linked, never mind all that other stuff i mentioned (and some of the links weren't for the exact items he used like he says in the video; the shop vac he used was a 5 HP, 4 gallon capacity model that goes for around $100), you would have to spend several hundreds of dollars if not on the wrong side of $500, to do a roughly $100-$200 fix (at a local muffler/exhaust or repair shop). Not to mention spend the better part of a day or two waiting for your engine to get cold after getting it onto the ramps and for the putty to cure. So yes, the "fix" is relatively easy if you have everything, and i mean every single thing you need, and your problem is similar to one that he described (hole in the pipe or little cracks near the manifold; if the problem was the catalytic converter, or completely bad parts that had to be replaced, it would require a different solution and you just "wasted" a bunch of money and/or time and inconvenience). But it's not necessarily inexpensive or even worthwhile, especially if you don't do a lot of DIY car repair/maintenance and have little need for car ramps and high powered suction/blowing equipment. Now if you're a weekend mechanic that invests in all the tools, equipment you need and most importantly, all the learning involved, like from well made videos like these (which are excellent aids, but still don't give you the mind of a mechanic, which just takes a lot of experience and repetition as well as a certain personality type), more power to you...
Razaah Omerta (1 day ago)
How did you even get that from what you just watched... he cut the hole to show how to use the other products the only thing you need is the product of your choice and if you want to find a leak using his method you could use a shop vac. Also how the hell is that an "industrial" shop vac, you can get a similar one for like 50 bucks.

I'm 90% sure I've got an exhaust leak because the engine is a little louder than normal and get headaches after driving a long time.
Rinyotsu (22 days ago)
+ChrisFix I'm ashamed at myself but turns out a piece of fruit I had thought I threw away had actually rolled under my seat. Luckily it was in a mostly sealed bag so nothing got on the carpet (I am no longer allowed to eat in my car, the risk/certainty of someone stealing my lunch is worth avoiding my embarrassment and mental problems. Alas I am glad my fix was easy because aside from the clamp, I doubt I could do any of those fixes or even the testing in a thunderstorm.
Rinyotsu (23 days ago)

DUDE!! I DID IT!!! I JB Welded my exhaust manifold a few months ago! It had dozens of cracks, holes, etc. I had to repair over half of it blind, as there was no way to see where to put the stuff on the side against the engine block. I just hooked up a Shop Vac to the tailpipe, put on heavy nitrile gloves, sprayed the manifold with soapy water, and went to town. I used the whole container, so like $13 of stuff to fix a thing so expensive, my mechanic didn't even bother to estimate. It took a few days and about 5 to 7 on-off cycles of the leaf blower (for the JB Weld to dry), but my engine is now quiet for the last 3 months. I need to explain this method to my mechanic, because he has no idea how this is done. Note: I am so glad that this kind of JB Weld doesn't have to be used all at once. I'd just seal the bottle and come back to it the next day to fix a few more small holes, and it was still good. Trust me, this was some massive holes and hairline cracks, working with inspection mirrors and by feel, and my vehicle sounds like it did when I bought it. It slightly improved gas mileage, too.
