Unboxed and Gas Engine Magazine Story

09:16
Gas engine Magazine that i read three weeks ago before i talk to the guy about buying a engine. I didnt ask him about the magazine I just looked at the Address and they were the same. I guess the why is because the Maytag upright on the next page in the same book was built by my Dad. Just was something to tell. Thanks for watching. We did unbox the engine. Looks good to this point. The engine is what the seller said it was.... We are making a mess..

Run a Homemade motor 10 cc model four stroke gas engine

03:25
Pictures of some parts then short video of starting a home shop machined 10 cc four stroke model engine. Engine case and cylinder head are sand cast aluminum. The cylinder is a machined aluminum round bar with a cast iron sleeve. Piston is aluminum and has two cast iron rings. The points are standard GM V-8 car parts. The spark advance is adjustable with the small brass handle on the back of the engine. Bore is 1 inch. Built using a 1941 9 inch South Bend lathe and a new Sherline 3" lathe. Uses a 3 volt model electric model airplane type coil and two D size flash light batteries for ignition. This engine is sold by Coles Power Models (now in Texas) as a casting kit known as the "Water Witch". A remarkabley similar engine was published as a project in Popular Mechanics Magazine in The October and November 1946 issues page 201. "Model Gas Engine" I copied the article from Library copies of the magazine and used a magnifying glass to read the small print on the drawings in the article. Back issues of Popular Mechanics are now posted online at http://books.google.com/books?id=IuEDAAAAMBAJ&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=1 The gears were purchased from Boston Gear. The the crank shaft is supported by two ball bearings. An old Champion "V" was borrowed from an old model airplane engine. It will run about 3 minutes on a teaspoon of "camp fuel" aka Colman fuel. Also runs fine on regular gasoline.

Thermal efficiencies as high as about 60% have been found in lab testing, which is remarkable for internal combustion engines. Combustion relies on a low reactivity fuel (in this case gasoline, though ethanal and natural gas can also be used) in combination with a high reactivity fuel (in this case diesel fuel). The engine benefits from the individual advantages of each fuel, resulting in exceptional efficiency and significantly less harmful emissions. Check out the video for details about how it works! Gas (Nitro) Engine Powered Shop Rags. History and Demo.

03:00
Flying shop rags were popular after we broke our planes as kids. We were addicted to these Cox glow engines, http://www.coxengines.com so we had to run them, just to run them! Today, I run the smallest of the Cox engines (.010) and show how to make flying shop rags. In those days, we usually ran and tried to catch them as they landed. The Tee Dee series, without a doubt, is Cox's greatest and most famous engine. This engine was "THE" engine to use in competition for many years. It was designed by Bill Atwood who had been hired by Cox specifically to produce the Tee Dee line of competition engines. The important features of the Tee Dee are as follows: · Tapered cylinder and a lightened and tapered piston o Result: tighter piston fit at TDC and less piston mass = more performance. · Two deep bypass ports with two bypass booster grooves on each bypass port, extending slightly above the main bypass groove o Result: significantly better air fuel mixture induction = more performance · True peripheral venturi o Result: more efficient fuel intake, fuel draw and induction = more performance · Precision balanced and milled crankshaft o Result: better fuel intake, better balanced engine = more performance The Tee Dee was tested by Aeromodeller Magazine in 1962 and the output power was recorded to 27,500 RPM. In 1973 the bypass porting, crank shaft timing and venturi were modified slightly and a mesh screen was added to the venturi to keep out dirt. This resulted in a minor performance improvement over the earlier versions. Cox engines were in production for more than 50 years between 1945 and 2006 by L.M. Cox Manufacturing Co. Inc. who later became "Cox Hobbies Inc." and then "Cox Products" before being sold to Estes Industries when it became Cox Models. Hobbico purchased Cox Models in January 2010. 50hp Samson Gas Engine - First Run in over 100 Years!

04:45
Here is another beauty from the workshop! An ancient 50hp 2 cylinder vertical gas engine built by the Samson Iron Works company of Stockton, California. This engine was originally used in a mine in Arizona up until it's shutdown in the late 1910's. It didn't leave until Walter Miller and his son, David, found the engine and brought it to us to restore it. By this point in time, the engine was in poor condition and missing many parts. We repaired the cylinders, adjusted bearings, rebuilt the cam followers and ignition system from scratch, and many other things. We are still working on a few details as well as tidying things up but it is running and it sounds good! Having last been ran at the mine in the 1910's, that makes it the first time this engine has ran in over 100 years! It is the only known existing engine of its size and type. The footage is a combination of our first run at our shop and it's first show at the Great Oregon Steam Up in Brooks, Oregon. I apologize for the extra noise at the shop. It's because of the 22 Cat we had belted up to help start the engine. It now starts easily by hand. We're honored that Walter and David allowed us the privilege of working on this engine. I'd also like to extend a thank you to all of our friends that helped on this project! Enjoy!

https://www.facebook.com/carlthepianist The first internal combustion engine was made by a Frenchman called Etienne Lenoir in 1859. He simply modified a steam engine to suck in and ignite the inflammable gas from his gas lights. Unfortunately the explosions were very violent and the engine was very inefficient.
