КАК УТЕПЛИТЬ СПАЛЬНЫЙ МЕШОК. Эксперимент 1 Вкладыш Sea To Summit Thermolite Reactor Extreme

12:38
Как утеплить спальный мешок. Эксперимент с покупкой вкладыша Sea To Summit Thermolite Reactor Extreme. NatureHike cw 280. Sea temperatures around Korean Peninsula rise by 2.89°C over 8 years: KMA

01:55
여름철 바다 수온 상승 최근 10년 새 가속화... 폭염 매년 심해질 수도 Sea temperature around the nation has been steadily rising in recent years. Other than dealing a blow to the local fishing industry the phenomenon may bring about other concerning changes. The weather agency warns it may cause worse heatwaves in the years to come. Seo Eun-kyung explains further. The seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula are getting warmer. According to a report from the Korean Meteorological Administration released Thursday, the average temperature in July stood at 21-point-36 degrees Celsius in 2010, but was 24-point-25 degrees Celsius during the same month this year. That's a rise of nearly 3 degrees Celsius. The weather agency says the average water temperature in July in the West Sea, the Southern Sea, and the East Sea surrounding the Korean peninsula has jumped by an average of zero-point-34 degrees Celsius per year since 2010. The weather agency anticipates that warmer seas around Korea could lead to a number of negative socio-economic effects, and also bring worse annual heat waves to the Korean Peninsula. "There are number of reasons... first of course, the fish catch will drop due to the rising temperatures and fish farms will suffer from this result. This will lead to a massive shutdown of fish farms." Prolonged heatwaves caused by climate change are one of the main reasons for the rising sea temperatures. Another reason for the warmer sea temperature is that the Korean Peninsula has been directly hit by typhoons in recent years, which has prevented the cold water deep below the sea's surface from mixing with the warm surface water. The meteorological agency says it will work with the South Korean government to try to minimize the impact of rising sea temperatures. Seo Eun-kyung, Arirang News. The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire. 1. Longest City Name You must be thinking Bangkok is not the longest city name in any way but look at the traditional Thai name – “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit”. Yes that’s the complete Thai name of Bangkok and has been listed as the longest name for a place in Guinness Book of World records. 2.Strange Laws Leaving the house without underwear in Bangkok can lend you in jail. It is also illegal to drive a vehicle bare-chested. And be careful, do not step on Thai currency as it is also against the law. 3.The world famous energy drink Red Bull was created in Bangkok by Chaleo Yoovidhya in 1976. At the time of his death in 2012, Chaleo was the third richest man in Thailand with an estimated wealth of US $5 million. 4. City of Millionaires Thailand is home to around 200,000 millionaires and around 95% of them lives in Bangkok. You will be in company of some very rich people in Bangkok. 5.Temples on Coins Now for an interesting fact, all Thai baht coins have temples stamped on their back and all of these temples are in Bangkok and you can visit them all in one day. Make a fun game out of it when in Bangkok by trying to find all the locations pictured on coins. 7.Largest Chinatown Yaowarat the local Chinatown in Bangkok is the world’s largest Chinatown and is home to over a million Chinese people. Yaowarat is also one of the most vibrant places in Bangkok to shop and eat. 8. Largest Gold Buddha Housed inside Wat Traimit in Chinatown is the largest gold Buddha statue in the world. The statue is 9.8 ft tall and weighs around 5.5 tons with an estimated value of 250 million dollars. 9.Venice of the East Bangkok is build over a dozens of canals and its buildings stood on stilts just like Venice. Although most canals have now been filled and paved Bangkok is still popular with tourists as Venice of the East. 10. Sinking City Just like Venice Bangkok is sinking at a rate of 2 to 2.5 cm per year due to heavy development and rising sea levels. According to a report by Thai Government, parts of Bangkok could be underwater in the next 15 years. So if you are planning to visit Bangkok, better do it sooner. 11. Hottest City While summer temperatures are not extreme in Bangkok, it is the world’s hottest city because of average high temperatures year-round. With the average temperature of 88 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year Bangkok is sure to make you sweat even in December. 12.Street Water Fight Every year during Thai New Year holiday, Bangkok hosts the world’s largest street water fight known as Songkran festival. +++++++++++++++ Many More++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Some visuals from: Davidsbeenhere https://www.youtube.com/user/Davidsbeenhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghoAIMb8vTI&t=164s saurabh singh | REVEALINGEYES | SAURABH SINGH Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Rising temperatures pose danger to coral reefs & marine life in Mauritius

01:28
The island of Mauritius is bracing itself for a double threat to its coral reef -- climate change and the El Nino weather pattern, which could hit the Indian Ocean later this year. Conservationists say an increase in sea temperature could cause coral bleaching, which could destroy the country's underwater paradise.

Similan Islands Scuba Diving Thailand GoPro HD

07:06
In december 2014, the winter didn´t show up in Europe. So we thought we go looking for it! In Thailand we found the "winter" to be not all bad with 26°C air/ 28° C water temperature in the Andaman Sea: Similan Islands off of Khao Lak on the thai west coast. I´ve dreamt of diving here for many years - I should´ve come earlier!!!... The infamous "Similan Islands" are said to have been an underwater paradise of beautiful coral landscapes once with an abundance of fish (small and pelagic) but are now a minefield of dead coral and very little fish (well, much less than expected) with an okayish visibility. Coral bleaching and a the Tsunami (that hit Khao Lak in 2014) have done great damage to marine life here 60 Km off the coast. The mass tourism in Thailand - on and off shore - didn´t really help obviously... So considering one has to sail for 2-3 hrs one way to get to the islands you might reconsider if it´s worth the effort. You might also take some sea sickness pills with you ;-) The "Boonsung Wreck" is a nice little dive site, here we found some more fish, quite a few moray eels and more scorpion fish than I´ve seen before. We went with "Sea-Bees" dive center, Khao Lak. They did a very good job organizing the trips and the staff is super nice, at the office as well as on the boat. The rental equipment is okay, not Top notch but I´ve seen worse. Well, been there, done that- after years of dreaming Thailand is off the list.

Snorkeling in Thailand - Phuket

00:52
The tropical waters of the Andaman Sea are ideal for snorkeling - clear, calm, balmy and bursting with brilliant marine life. Snorkeling can be done year-round in Phuket, but the best time of year is November-April, when the sea's at its most placid. Take care through the May-October low season, when the undertow can become dangerously strong along the west coast. The warm water temperature (27-28°C) means that snorkellers don't need to wear wetsuits, though wearing a t-shirt is advised to prevent sunburn. At some beaches it is possible to rent snorkeling gear for the day, though it may not be of great quality. Many shops around the island sell a range of masks, snorkels and fins.

Whale Shark Video: Swimming With Whale Shark at Koh Tao, Thailand [HD]

02:15
Whale Shark Video: Swimming With Whale Shark at Koh Tao, Thailand. Scuba divers swimming and taking a close up video of this whale shark at Koh Tao, Thailand. Large, kind, and beautiful animal ever. The biggest fish in the sea, Whale shark, is a slow-moving filter feeding shark and the largest known extant fish species. The largest confirmed individual had a length of 12.65 m (41.50 ft) and a weight of more than 21.5 metric tons (47,000 lb). Whale shark is found in tropical and warm oceans and lives in the open sea, with a lifespan of about 70 years. Whale sharks have very large mouths, and as filter feeders, they feed mainly on plankton. The BBC program Planet Earth filmed a whale shark feeding on a school of small fish. The same documentary showed footage of a whale shark timing its arrival to coincide with the mass spawning of fish shoals and feeding on the resultant clouds of eggs and sperm. One of the most famous diving site at Koh Tao, Chumpon Pinnacle, is the area that you can find many sea turtles, whale sharks, and bull sharks. However, bull sharks are not much seen lately since the water temperature has been raising up, and you know, bull sharks love colder water so they gone. Malaysia sea horse reef with thailand diving club pattaya

01:14
Follow my adventures @http://www.thailand-diving.org/english/malaysia-dive.com/ #Thailanddiving Malaysia sea horse reef with thailand diving club pattaya Diving in Malaysia Perhentian The islands of Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil are one of Malaysia’s top tourist attractions. They are surrounded by turquoise blue sea and lined with palm trees and white sand beaches providing an idyllic tropical island getaway. The Perhentian Islands consist of the 2 main inhabited islands and a few smaller uninhabited islands, Perhentian Besar being the larger of the two. Both islands are very popular with tourists are still not yet very built up. Perhentian Besar is the more expensive of the two islands with the more upmarket accommodation and resorts, while Perhentian Kecil is cheaper and caters more for backpackers. Climate The climate in this area is tropical so although most of the year is it lovely hot beach weather it does have a monsoon season. This is from the end of October to the end of March and during this season all accommodation and tourist businesses shut down and most people leave the islands. So the dive season runs from Early April to Late October. Water temperature during this time varies from 27C-32C with the coldest water temperature being during the middle of the monsoon and raising back up to 30C plus for the start of the dive season. This means that it is comfortable to dive in board shorts and a rash vest, or if you are prone to the cold then a 3mm shorty wetsuit. This beautifully warm water lasts all the way through the season and only starts dropping back down at the start of the monsoon at the end October/beginning of November. Marine Conservation The islands are home to many nesting hawksbill and green turtles, this number has drastically reduced over the last few years due to oil spills from oil tankers and oil platforms not too far away. The Department of Fisheries have started a turtle hatchery on the island to help with this problem. There are also Turtle conservation volunteer programs which you can take part in whilst on the island which monitor and protect nests and also educate local children about the need to save our oceans and marine life. ⇩⇩⇩ UNROLL THE BAR FOR MORE INFO ⇩⇩⇩ ====== Thailand diving http://www.thailand-diving.org/ Diving Course http://www.license-diving.com/ Instructor Diving http://instructor-diving.com/ Diving Cruise http://www.diving-cruise.com/ License Diving http://www.thailand-diving.org/english/license-diving.com/ Travel diving a la carte. http://traveldivingalacarte.com ===== 🎨 Contact http://www.thailand-diving.org/contact/ ===== 🙈 BUT WHO IS THAT? ===== WELCOME TO THAILAND DIVING Diving is our passion! Hawksbill Sea Turtle - Big Blue Diving, Koh Tao, Thailand.

00:17
The hawksbill's appearance is similar to that of other marine turtles. In general, it has a flattened body shape, a protective carapace, and flipper-like limbs, adapted for swimming in the open ocean. E. imbricata is easily distinguished from other sea turtles by its sharp, curving beak with prominent tomium, and the saw-like appearance of its shell margins. Hawksbill shells slightly change colors, depending on water temperature. While this turtle lives part of its life in the open ocean, it spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs. The World Conservation Union, primarily as a result of Human fishing practices, classifies E. imbricata as critically endangered. Filmed at White Rock, Koh Tao, Thailand. The World's Most Dangerous Approach - Paro, Bhutan

17:37
Join me on a flight with Bhutan Airlines (Tashi Air) A319 from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan. Paro Airport is situated in between mountains and valleys at 7,332 ft above sea level. The approach is well considered as one of the most dangerous and most spectacular in the world. Check out the amazing landing footage. In addition, the flight also flew across many top 10 mountains in the world include Mt Everest. ------- Join us for a spectacular and thrilling, up close, documentary look at the world’s most dangerous airport landing at Paro airport in Bhutan. Make sure you watch all the way to the end of the video to catch the sped up, bird’s eye view of the fabulous and graceful twisting and turning of the aeroplane on its approach to the landing strip of Paro airport, the sole international airport of Bhutan located six kilometres from Paro in a very deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu, and how the runway suddenly appears from nowhere. It takes a real aviation expert and a very steady hand to make a safe landing at Paro airport! In this video, we fly from Kathmandu airport in Nepal to Paro airport in Bhutan using Bhutan airlines. After a brief look inside Kathmandu airport’s executive airport lounge, we board our flight and meet the chief pilot of Bhutan airlines – we’re in safe hands; only a handful of trained captains are qualified and certified to land at Paro airport and it takes a minimum of eight to ten years of intensive training to become a captain. We examine the runway at Kathmandu airport which is very bumpy and, interestingly, has no taxiways to the main runway, necessitating the use of some tricky manoeuvres and, needless to say, keen attention paid to air traffic control. The flight is only forty minutes long but the flight is still packed with events and sights. In the video, we see most of the top ten highest mountains in the world within the Himalayas including Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse and the tallest of all, Mount Everest. We also see the mountains of Bhutan within the Himalayan mountain range including Jomolhari and Jitchu Drake. The pictures of the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas are breath taking and we hear the captain’s opinions of why he thinks there is less snow now than there was in previous years. We also enjoy lunch with champagne on board and we enjoy sharing a specially made cake with the Bhutan airlines crew to celebrate our travelling with them to the legendary Paro airport of Bhutan. Paro airport is surrounded by mountains as high as 5500 metres and only has a single runway of length 1964 metres. Its single terminal was constructed in 1999 and it is a hub for two airlines: Bhutan airlines and Druk Air. Paro airport is such a difficult airport to land in that it can only be used in visual meteorological conditions and operational hours are restricted to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset. You really won’t want to miss this video focusing on the world’s most challenging airport to land at. Let us know in the comments what you thought of the scenery and the whole experience and, as always, thanks for watching!

It is a very popular Thai street food dish in Thailand and you will also find it at nearly all Thai restaurants, but the crab omelette by Jay Fai is quite unique. JAY FAI CRAB OMELETTE RECIPE INGREDIENTS - 200 grams of crab meat. - 5 eggs - 1 heaped tablespoon of tempura flour. - 600 ml of cooking oil (We used soybean oil in the video) METHOD 1. Beat 2 eggs in a pouring jug. 2. Crack the other 3 eggs into an ovenproof bowl, add the tempura flour and beat well. Add the crab, but do not mix 3. Heat the oil over a medium heat for about 3 minutes and then test the temperature by dropping some of the beaten egg into it. If the egg floats on the top, sizzles and cooks quickly the oil is ready. 4. Pour it so the crab pieces end up in the centre of the omelette. 5. Let the outside cook for about 30 seconds and then begin to roll it into shape. 6. Roll into a tight cylinder. Keep rolling and pressing firmly to get it tight. Don’t press too hard, or it will split. 7. Remove any excess bits that have not bonded and keep rolling & pressing. 8. Fill any holes in the omelette with the beaten egg from the pouring jug to get it smooth. 9. Keep rolling, pressing and removing any excess bits. 10. Seal the ends with the beaten egg from the pouring jug. 11. Keep rolling, pressing and removing any excess bits and cook for 15 minutes. 12. Serve with some sprigs of coriander, chili sauce and enjoy :) Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/darrenb3 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/youtube.darrenb3/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thailandvideos/ Donate to help me make more videos: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=ESL6RHW9ERZ8W&lc=AU&item_name=darrenb3%20Thailand%20Videos&currency_code=USD&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donateCC_LG%2egif%3aNonHosted Check out my recent video: Phuket Street Food: 8 Things You Should Try in 2019 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esd0O2ZbXTw You’ll find Thai street food on many street corners in Thailand, as well as at every market, be it in Krabi, Phuket, Bangkok or Pattaya. Sea Cave along Maui's Kanaio Coast (Maui, Hawaii)

01:21
We had to rise early in order to meet the tour at the Kihei boat ramp. We were staying in Lahaina and had about a 25-mile drive with a fair amount of city-type driving to get there. We calculated about 50 minutes to make that trip. It's easy to get up early when you come to Hawai'i from the US East Coast. After all, during the winter, 7:00am in Hawai'i is only noontime for our internal clocks. So it's easier to arrange these early morning tours within the first couple days of our stay here. We met the folks with Blue Water Rafting quite literally at the boat ramp. They launched the boat and we all climbed aboard. The boat was a deep-V, hard-hulled, inflatable-type vessel. Because of the deep-V, the boat was easily able to cut through the rough water. The water got extremely rough as we headed around the southern side of Maui, where the gusty tradewinds were not blocked by the mass of the island. The highlight of this boat tour was this encounter with a sea cave along the Kanaio Coast. I hope you find this video interesting. As we headed back around the western side -- the more wind protected side -- we stopped at La Pérouse Bay for some snorkeling. This was where I had a close encounter with a green sea turtle. It appeared as if he was seeking food. When he saw we had none, he moved on to beg from others. But I did manage to get a photo of him with my underwater single-use camera. I had a hard time snorkeling here, though. The water temperature -- about 75˚ Fahrenheit -- was a little too cool for this Florida boy. I knew I should have brought a shorty wetsuit. Needless to say, I did not stay in the water too long. We also stopped at Makena for some more snorkeling before heading back to the boat ramp. Unfortunately, we never crossed paths with any spinner dolphins. Although it was the end of January, we did not see and humpbacks either. This tour was just okay in our book because of the rough ride. My normally tough sea legs were put to the test and I was starting to feel ill by the time we returned to the ramp. My wife, who is usually easily sickened by the wave action, had taken Dramamine the night before and the morning of this tour. She was also starting to show signs of problems. If you are easily overtaken with motion sickness, you may want to reconsider this ride. It's a tough one.

Culture of rainbow trout in the northern highlands of Thailand

03:31
Credit: Parinya Sutthinon (Thailand) Review: Parinya Sutthinon and Abdel Rahman El Gamal (Founder of the video channel) The farm shown in the video is a part of the Royal-Inthanon Project located in the mountain area in Chiangmai Province, Thailand. The Royal Project which was founded in 1969 aimed to help the hill-tribe poor people who lived in Inthanon Mountain – or other high mountains in the north of Thailand- to become self-supporting and to develop the skills about aquaculture as a means for enhancing household nutrition and increasing income for the target people. The concrete raceways shown belong to the farm of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) which is located at a height of about 1300 m above sea level whereas water temperature at such elevation is about (18-20 ˚C) which was found suitable for all-year round cool water aquaculture as required for rainbow trout from fingerling until marketable size (250-300 g). The concrete raceways measure (2.5x30x1 m deep). Raceways receive water from the waterfall at the rate of 250 l/min in the summer season and 500 l/min in the rainy season. Feed used in the project is pelleted commercial seabass feed. The shown farm can produce fresh trout, smoked trout and gold caviar (from trout). It may worth mentioning that rainbow trout is not native to Thailand and hence fertilized eggs of rainbow trout were initially imported from Germany and Finland. The species has been chosen based on their temperature compatibility as well as their production performance and market merit.

Phuket Thailand - Paradise on Earth

01:38
Phuket Thailand - Paradise on Earth Phuket is Thailand's largest at 48km in length and 21km at its widest. It's in Southern Thailand, on the west-facing Andaman Sea coastline, suspended from the southern tip of Phang Nga Province by a pair of short but substantial road bridges. Phuket island in the Andaman Sea, has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches, mainly situated along the clear waters of the western shore. The island is home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants. Phuket City, the capital, has old shophouses and busy markets. Patong, the main resort town, has many nightclubs, bars and discos. Phuket Town is the largest town in Phuket Province. It has a population of 63,000 and is the economic hub of the island. For the most part just an ordinary, scruffy provincial Thai town, it's hardly a major tourist attraction, but the Chinatown area is worth a quick look and there are some great Thai-style shopping opportunities too. Overall, accommodation and food in the town is cheaper than near the beaches, and can provide a refreshing change of pace. The hot season is generally considered to be from March to early May. During the summer monsoon season from May to October, mornings and afternoons are still sunny and clear, but it tends to rain in the evenings and water clarity goes down. Locals consider November to February the "cool" season, and the weather is quite tolerable, much more so than in the tourism centres around the Gulf coast. It's comparable to Florida's summer weather in temperature and intensity of rain storms: 25-33°C, flying clouds, short and thunderous rainfalls in the afternoons and evenings. Surfing is possible off the western beaches. A Coral Reef Revival | The Atlantic

08:02
David Vaughan works on the Florida Reef Tract, the third largest coral reef in the world and a vastly important ecosystem for sustaining underwater life. He and a team of scientists are working to combat the crisis in the world’s coral reefs—that is, that human beings have lost 25 to 40 percent of the world’s corals in recent decades due largely to seawater temperature rise and continued acidification of the ocean. Vaughan has developed a technique called “micro-fragmenting” that allows corals to grow more than 25 times faster than normal, which could rapidly restore the dwindling population of healthy coral reefs. The Atlantic went inside the Mote Tropical Research Laboratory in Summerland Key, Florida, where Vaughan is the executive director, to uncover how the process works and understand how much hope there is to reverse the damage caused by humans.

Tropical Storm Pabuk (36W) targeting Southern Thailand on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula has become the first named cyclone of the 2019 Western Pacific typhoon season. The cyclone is battling strong vertical wind shear; however, warm sea temperatures and robust outflow may counteract this shear long enough for the cyclone to reach tropical storm strength as it enters the Gulf of Thailand, where it is expected to dump heavy rainfall and bring gusty winds to the Malay Peninsula in the next 48 hours According To the Thailand Meteorological Department. At 7.00 p.m. 3 January, Tropical storm “PABUK” located at latitude 6.5 N, longitude 104.0 E. With its maximum sustained winds of 35 knots or 65 km/hr, the storm was moving west-northwest slowly. It was forecast to make landfall evening January 4th about 610 km (380 mi) south of Bangkok, on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula over Nakhon Si Thammarat it will affect the South with widespread rainfalls, and some torrential downpours are possible. People should beware of the severe conditions. From Jan 3rd thru 5th : Isolated torrential downpours with strong wind along the east coast of the Malay Peninsula is expected On both sides of Thai gulf. it is expected to be cloudy with fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated torrential rains much of the areas. Northeasterly winds 21-32 knots or 40-60 km/hr. The strong winds are forecast with waves up to 3-5 meters high in the Gulf and 2-3 meters high in the Andaman Sea. All ships keep ashore lasting 5 January 2019. People in the Gulf should be aware of inshore surges. Toward the end of the week and over the weekend, Pabuk will continue along a northwestward track which will take it across the Malay Peninsula and over the Bay of Bengal. Similan Islands, Phang Nga, Thailand

01:36
Similan Islands, Phang Nga, Thailand. The most interesting sights, however, are to be found beneath the waves. Some of the most spectacular coral growths in the world can be found here - and the same boulders that scatter the shores have turned the waters around the Similans into an adventure playground for divers. Similan Islands Wonders Underwater, meanwhile, all sorts of marine creatures have helped establish the reefs and the sandy beaches. When you climb up to Sailing Boat Rock, consider the brilliant white sand below. The conditions for coral growth are ideal, with a minimum prevailing sea temperature and exceptionally clear waters. More than 200 species of hard coral alone have so far been identified in this area, while these islands have the greatest profusion of reef fish in Thai waters. It's best known as a diving and snorkelling destination, but the Similans' scenic moorings are also becoming increasingly popular with the sailing fraternity. Every year more yachts come to cruise the Similans during the northeast monsoon (November-May, with December-February the peak of the high season)
The Dock

05:24
At four am we were up, towing out what’s now known as "The Dock” in Bali for this concept shoot. We asked ourselves, what does the future look like? A cashless society? Self-driving cars? We’ll leave the wavepools for Kelly Slater and co. Instead, we envisioned lineup where you don’t have to paddle. Which turns out to be a rather dangerous affair. “The dock’s been scary,” said Ozzie Wright. “At one stage I just came up, got my board and saw it coming right at me. I like the chaos of it. The whole time everybody was like, “Where are we going!? Where are we going!? That was the fun bit. I kept thinking what if the tip was on the beach at a little shorey? No paddling, just run out, jump on a wave surf it to the beach then run back out and jump on another one. That’d be so much fun.” “It would just kill you if it hit you, yeah?” asked Noa Deane, after the fact. “What’s it weigh? Half a tonne? When it wears a wave on the head it kicks like a snake. Like, Balaram jumped up and went six feet in the air. Then he landed on the wire, so sketchy. It whips right at the end because it’s connected to a cable which adds extra tension.” Now that the tension’s relieved, we invite you to loosen your belt and enjoy “The Dock” as ridden by Noa, Ozzie, Yago Dora, Mitch Coleborn, Balaram Stack and Imaikalani Devault. After all, what's fun without a little heightened heart rate? Sea Ice with Dr. Tom Wagner [declining sea ice explained]

05:11
Arctic sea ice has melted to a level not recorded since satellite observations started in 1972 -- and almost certainly not experienced for at least 8,000 years, say polar scientists. Daily satellite sea-ice maps released by Bremen university physicists show that with a week's more melt expected this year, the floating ice in the Arctic covered an area of 4.24 million square kilometres on 8 September. The previous one-day minimum was 4.27m sq km on 17 September 2007. The US National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado, which also tracks the extent of sea ice, has not posted data for a week but is expected to announce similar results in the next few days. The German researchers said the record melt was undoubtedly because of human-induced global warming. "The sea-ice retreat can no more be explained with the natural variability from one year to the next, caused by weather influence," said Georg Heygster, head of the Institute of Environmental Physics at Bremen. "It seems to be clear that this is a further consequence of the man-made global warming with global consequences. Climate models show that the reduction is related to the man-made global warming, which, due to the albedo effect, is particularly pronounced in the Arctic," he said. The albedo effect is related to a surface's reflecting power -- whiter sea ice reflects more of the sun's heat back into space than darker seawater, which absorbs the sun's heat and gets warmer. Floating Arctic sea ice naturally melts and re-freezes annually, but the speed of change in a generation has shocked scientists -- it is now twice as great as it was in 1972, according to the NSIDC, with a decline of about 10% per decade. Arctic temperatures have risen more than twice as fast as the global average over the past half century. Separate, less reliable, research suggests that Arctic ice is in a downward spiral, declining in area but also thinning. Using records of air, wind and sea temperature, scientists from the Polar Science Centre of the University of Washington, Seattle, announced last week that the Arctic sea-ice volume reached its lowest ever level in 2010 and was on course to set more records this year. The new data suggests that the volume of sea ice last month appeared to be about 2,135 cubic miles -- just half the average volume and 62% lower than the maximum volume of ice that covered the Arctic in 1979. The research will be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Geophysical Research. If current trends continue, a largely ice-free Arctic in the summer months is likely within 30 years --that is up to 40 years earlier than was anticipated in the last Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment report. The last time the Arctic was uncontestably free of summertime ice was 125,000 years ago, at the height of the last major interglacial period, known as the Eemian. "This stunning loss of Arctic sea ice is yet another wake-up call that climate change is here now and is having devastating effects around the world," Shaye Wolf, climate science director at the Centre for Biological Diversity in San Francisco told journalists. Arctic ice plays a critical role in regulating Earth's climate by reflecting sunlight and keeping the polar region cool. Retreating summer sea ice is widely described by scientists as both a measure and a driver of global warming, with negative impacts on a local and planetary scale. This year, both the North-west and North-east passages were mostly ice free, as they have been twice since 2008. Last month, the 74,000-tonne STI Heritage tanker passed through the North-east Passage with the assistance of ice breakers in just eight days on its way from Houston, Texas, to Thailand. The north-east sea route, which links the Atlantic to the Pacific, is likely to become a commercial ship operator's favourite, saving thousands of miles and avoiding tolls on the Suez Canal tolls. Further evidence of dramatic change in the Arctic came last week from Alan Hubbard, a Welsh glaciologist at Aberystwyth University, who has been studying the Petermann glacier in northern Greenland for several years. The glacier, which covers about 6% of the icecap, is 186 miles (300km) long and up to 3,280ft (1km) high. In August last year, a 100 square-mile (260 sq km) block of ice calved from the glacier. Photographs show that by July this year it had melted and disappeared. "I was gobsmacked. It [was] like looking into the Grand Canyon full of ice and coming back two years later to find it full of water," said Hubbard. Last year (2010) tied with 2005 as the warmest year on record.
