Oracle Solaris Cluster Installation Part 1

05:53
Oracle Solaris Clusteroracle-solaris Its been a while since I wrote an article. In the previous tutorial, I configured IPMP, which is basically NIC bonding in Linux terms. Today, its about installing and configuring Oracle Solaris Cluster. This is a two-node cluster built on SPARC servers, couple of NIC interfaces on each server and a bunch of hard disks. Requirements We have two servers each with following hardware and software. SPARC S7-2. 254 GB RAM. 5 Ethernet Interfaces (net0, net1, net2, net3 & net4). 4 Disks, each of around 500 GB. Oracle Solaris 11. OSC repository ISO image. Howto I am logged in both the nodes as root user. If you have DNS configured, see to it that the nodes are able to resolve each other. In my case, since I do not have DNS, I have placed entries in “/etc/hosts” on both of them. In order to configure a cluster, we first need to configure repository and install necessary packages. The next series of steps should be configured on one node only. I picked node 1 for this cluster setup. You are free to do your own “eeni meeni myni mo“and pick your node. At the time of the write-up, I downloaded “osc-4.3-repo-iso.zip” from Oracle, unzip ISO image inside it and mounted on “/mnt“. I have included the procedure to create a device and mount ISO image on it, in this Clustering video. Now that the image is in place, we build the cluster repository using the following commands. pkg set-publisher -g file:///mnt/repo ha-cluster Once the repository is loaded, we can verify like so. pkg publisher oracle-cluster-repoAs it can be seen, the default Solaris repository and cluster repository are online and ready for next phase that is, installing the cluster. pkg install –accept ha-cluster-full #”–accept” is for accepting license terms and conditions. A successful installation should give the following output. Get more tutorials on http://www.nixfury.com

Solaris 11 Upgrade TEXT to GUI

09:54
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com In this video we look at taking a text only intsall of Oracle Solaris 11 and adding the GUI to it. We will do this safely using Boot Enviorments so if we have issues with the GUI we can roll back to our saved BE. This is easy within Solaris 11 and we can make use of the ZFS filesystem that goes way beyond the capabilities of what you may expect. So first we will create an new BE with BEADM create and then mount the BE to a temporary directory and install the GUI to that BE, or snapshot of our system. We will now have two BE that we can choose to boot to, the original Solaris image and now our new GUI. When we want to test the GUI we activate the GUI BE and if that is ok we can delete or "destroy" the old BE.

Customer Panel: Optimizing Web App Performance at Scale with DNS Steering

46:09
Great application teams relentlessly focus on optimizing the performance of their applications using a variety of tools, but have generally felt powerless to improve the way users access services across the open internet. Modern DNS with intelligent response is changing all that, giving organizations the power to define sophisticated answer strategies based on geolocation, performance, and availability. In this session a panel of Oracle’s Dyn customers discuss the value of modern DNS for global scale and performance optimization.

Solaris 11 Assigning Privileges to Users

02:53
More videos like this online at http://www.theurbanpenguin.com Oracle Solaris 11 has a security mechanism within RBAC that goes beyond the normal OS security we may expect to find. We may want a user account to be able to back-up the complete file-system for this they will need to be able to read all files. It is a mammoth task to ensure the user has read access to all files so often the root account may be used for this. Using privileges within RBAC we can assign the user file_dac_read which allows them to read files even though they may not be in the files ACL. Now we maintain the security that we need using the concept of Least Privilege

A system administrator, or sysadmin, is a person who is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems; especially single-user computers, such as servers. The system administrator seeks to ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the computers they manage meet the needs of the users, without exceeding a set budget when doing so. To meet these needs, a system administrator may acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; maintain security policies; troubleshoot; train or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects Get the full IT specialization cerficate: https://www.coursera.org/specializations/google-it-support System Administration and IT Infrastructure Services full course: https://www.coursera.org/learn/system-administration-it-infrastructure-services Topic Covered::::::: Introduction to System Administration and IT Infrastructure Services Course Introduction What is Systems Administration?
