Karoshi Server 11.1 New Features and Improvements
Karoshi is built on long term support Ubuntu releases. Ubuntu moved to using upstart and then to systemd for it’s init system. Karoshi stayed with using upstart as Canonical were still providing updates for this package and it was working well in the server version. Now that it looks like upstart will no longer be supported by Canonical in future LTS releases we have had to follow suit and move to systemd. MariaDB is now the default database in this version and in most cases has proved to be a drop in replacement for MySQL. The Nextcloud module has been updated to version 12 and also includes an automated install of a docker module for Collabora Online proving Libre Office document creation and editing via a web browser. Karoshi V11.1 is provided with Samba version 4.6.7 which is currently the latest stable Samba release. In Karoshi V11.0.1 DNS was provided by Samba’s internal DNS server. This has now been changed to use BIND which is automatically configured. The Web Management DNS page has been improved to provide support for additional DNS zones.
