We exist in a world where everything is labeled and categorized including people but is it possible to define ourselves? Sunday Omony believes that we have the power to define who we are through self-acceptance and embarrassing our own uniqueness. As a Plus-Size Supermodel, Omony challenges modern standards of beauty in the fashion industry while teaching us that we do not have to change who we are to succeed. It's up to you to define yourself.
Sunday Omony is an international Plus-Size Supermodel, talk show host and a speaker for humanitarian causes. Called a "fiercely real role model" by the Calgary Herald, she was selected as a Woman of Vision by Global TV, and was an Ambassador for Calgary 2012, the FEED 1 Project, and serves as a spokesperson for We Can Rise Up as well as Hearts 4 Peace.
Through her work as a plus-size model, Omony has become an advocate for positive body image and women's empowerment. She has modeled for well-known labels such as Old Navy, Penningtons, Toni+ Plus, The Hudson Bay Company and has been featured in VOGUE Italia's VOGUE Curvy, Reader's Digest, ELLE Magazine South Africa and a variety of fashion magazines in North America, Europe and Africa. She has been featured in diverse publications as the Toronto Sun, the Ottawa Sun, the Observer, the Calgary Herald, the Weekly Albertan, Afrikamerik and more. Television appearances include ET Canada, MTV Canada, CTV News, Global TV, and City TV. Omony was also a guest on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), CJSW and CMRC radio.
Career accomplishments aside, Omony is deeply involved in her community -- founding a non-profit organization in 2004 called Immigrant Youth Empowerment Society. She was recognized by the University of Calgary for her community service and continues to partner with organizations promoting peace and human rights, such as GuluWalk, a campaign that supports war affected youth in northern Uganda by focusing on providing sports, culture, peace-building and agricultural opportunities.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
