CITY BENEATH THE SEA (1971) RARE THEATRICAL TRAILER

03:41
☆ Irwin Allen's follow-up to his previous "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" has Admiral Nelson as the President, and Robert Colbert out of the Time Tunnel and into the Flying Sub! Think of it as a "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea: The Next Generation"!
CITY BENEATH THE SEA (1967) NBC UNSOLD PILOT

11:01
✰ In 1967 Irwin Allen produced this network promo for NBC as a potential replacement series for Star Trek. It combines themes and plot-devices from all of Irwin Allen's previous series (specifically Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea), as well as several subtle (yet obvious) nods to Star Trek. The costumes (designed by Paul Zastupnevich) have the ribbed turtleneck-like collar similar to both of the Star Trek pilots, as well as color co-ordinated department stripes (gold, red, blue, green) - decades ahead of Rick Berman's prequel series - "Star Trek: Enterprise". ✰ Irwin's ensemble cast included Glenn Corbett (whom also played Zefram Cochrane, the founder of warp drive in Star Trek's "Metamorphosis" episode), Lawrence Montaigne (whom played Spock's rival Stonn in the episode "Amok Time") as the human/amphibian hybrid medical and science officer "Dr. Raymond Aguila", Francine York as Yeoman "Lia Holmes" (a role much like Yeoman Janice Rand on Star Trek), Norman Grabowski as "Irish" (a cousin of "Scotty" perhaps?), Cecile Ozorio as the Asian security chief "Choo-Choo" (perhaps an unintentional a nod to Trek's Sulu), James Brolin as "Wild Bill" appears to have the same firey temper as Mark Goddard's Major West on Lost In Space, and Lloyd Bochner as the ever present villain akin to Irwin Allen villains Dr. Smith on Lost In Space, and Mr. Fitzhugh on Land Of The Giants. ✰ To make this presentation appear more lavish than it actually was at a cost of next to nothing, Irwin made use of chroma-key compositing and stock-footage. ✰ When NBC declined to pick-up the series, Irwin expanded this concept into a motion picture in 1970 and recruited the majority of his stable to reprise similar roles. ✰ The cockpit of this Flying Sub (now called an "Aquafoil") is basically a modified version of the Spindrift from Irwin's Land Of The Giants (which was already in production at that time), however, when this pilot was expanded into a full-length feature, the Flying Sub/Aquafoil retained its original set design as seen in seasons 2 thru 4 of Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. ✰ The music contained in this pilot reel was stock-footage culled from a variety of sources including the 1953 film "Beneath The 12 Mile Reef", as well as Irwin's previous series "Lost In Space" and "The Time Tunnel". ✰ Here is further information pertaining to this subject: the then Vice-President of Programs at NBC Burbank Herb Schlosser requisitioned a pilot script from Irwin Allen at his Kent Productions office at 20th Century Fox in 1967 to replace Star Trek (which was originally slated to be cancelled after wrapping "Operation Annihilate") with a show that appealed to the same demographics that would score the same ratings ABC and CBS were achieving with Allen's productions. Believing Roddenberry's "a wagon train to the stars" concept was a failure, perhaps Schlosser felt the focus should be shifted to inner-space rather than outer-space so NBC could benefit from a similar success as ABC-TV's long-running "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" then entering its fourth season. After obtaining the script entitled "And Then It Rained for Five Hundred Years" written by William Welch, Mr. Schlosser had several changes made which resulted with some of this seemingly Trek-inspired footage seen here. A massive campaign accompanied by several demonstrations saved Star Trek and IA's CBTS series was not picked-up (but ABC was interested in the Land Of The Giants, so Irwin went ahead with that instead). When Star Trek was indeed cancelled the second time in 1969, it was replaced by another 20th Century Fox production instead : Del Reisman's "Bracken's World" starring Warren Stevens. 3 years later when Land Of The Giants was not renewed for a third season by ABC in 1970, Irwin produced another City Beneath The Sea pilot (rewritten by John Meredyth Lucas). I believe this version was broadcast on the NBC Monday Night Movie January 25, 1971 (following Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In), but again it failed to be picked up as a series.

City Beneath The Waves - Pavlopetri | BBC Documentary

49:57
Once a thriving port that dominated the Mediterranean, at least 2000 years ago Pavlopetri was mysteriously lost to the waves. Discovered in 1967, nestled in a natural harbour just off the southern Greek coast, this is the oldest submerged city in the world, created at the dawn of Western civilisation. Its stone foundations, tombs and the remains of its temples have been preserved intact in serene waters, tantalisingly off limits - until now. This film invites you to join the mission of the only archaeological team ever granted permission to dig the site by the Greek authorities. Most Amazing Cities Found UNDERWATER!

11:30
Here is the top list of mysterious sunken underwater cities in the world found underwater! These strange and mindblowing but also amazing forgotten ancient underwater ruins are located deep into the ocean. Check out Alexandria, City of Cuba, Yonaguni, Lake Titicaca, Pavlopetri, Lion City, Heracleion and more underwater cities! Yonaguni Pyramids In the mid 80s, Divers found underwater rock terraces and pyramids off the coast of Yonaguni Jima. Yonaguni Jima is an island that lies near the southern tip of Japan's Ryukyu archipelago, About 75 miles off the eastern coast of Taiwan. At first scientists believed they might be natural formations, but There are quarry marks and some writing on the stones and animal statues that have also been found underwater. Now some experts believe that The structures Could be what is left of the mythical city of Mu, a fabled Pacific civilization rumored to have vanished beneath the waves. Masaki Kimura, a marine geologist from the University of Japan, Has been studying the underwater pyramids for over 15 years. The underwater structures include castle ruins, a triumphal arch, five temples and at least one large stadium, all of which are Connected by roads and water channels and are partly shielded by what could be huge retaining walls. Kimura believes the ruins date back to at least 5,000 years, based on the dates of stalactites found inside underwater caves that he says sank with the city. The theory is that the ancient underwater city Might have been sunk by an earthquake or tsunami around 2,000 years ago. Yonaguni invites tourists and researchers to dive freely around the site. 2. Sunken City of Cuba In 2001, A company called Advanced Digital Communications (ADC) was working with Fidel Castro's government to explore Cuban waters looking for sunken Spanish ships loaded with treasure. Their Sonar equipment picked up a series of geometrical structures lying on the bottom of the ocean. Here's a computer generated image of the pyramids and other structures found underwater. The structures and design made it look like there was A gigantic underwater city at the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle. The media went crazy claiming that Atlantis had been discovered in Cuba. There are local legends of the Maya and native Yucatecos that tell of an Island inhabited by their ancestors that vanished beneath the waves. If it's true the structures were made by an ancient civilization, they would have been the Most technologically advanced structures on the planet at that time. Scientists estimate that they would have been built about 50,000 years ago which doesn't seem very likely. The numerous structures and cities that have been discovered underwater around the world Lie less than 120 meters (or 395 feet) below sea level, which comes as no surprise since the sea level never fell below this mark during the time Homo sapiens walked the earth. This Cuban city, if we can call it that, is the Only exception since It is submerged over 700 meters (2300 feet) underwater. If the large structures are actually pyramids, 2 of them are Even larger than the pyramids of Giza and Cheops in Egypt. As of yet there is no plausible explanation for the existence of this city and ADC is still trying to investigate the site. 3. Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca is Located in the Andes between Bolivia and Peru. It is the largest freshwater lake in South America and was the cradle of Peru's ancient civilizations, including the Inca. Their presence can be seen on Lake Titicaca by the ruins they left behind, including A mysterious underwater temple thought to be between 1,000 and 1,500 years old. In the Incan creation myth, The god Con Tiqui Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca. After commanding the sun, moon, and the stars to rise, Viracocha created more human beings from stone. After bringing them to life, Viracocha Commanded them to go and populate the world. The Incas therefore believed that Lake Titicaca was their place of origin, and that upon death, Their spirits would return to this lake. Archeologists located a huge temple in 2000 after following a submerged road (and I'm sure following advice from locals). After 18 days of diving below the clear waters of Titicaca, scientists said they had Discovered a 660-foot long, 160-foot wide temple, a terrace for crops, and a 2,600-foot containing wall along with gold and statues. It is said the lost city was Covered with sediment during a great flood of biblical proportions and local people had passed down the stories of the underwater temple and flood from generation to generation.

Coming Soon in Technicolor

02:27
In celebration of the 100th-anniversary of Technicolor, we present this rare “City Beneath the Sea” trailer from 1953, courtesy of the Packard Humanities Institute Collection at the Academy Film Archive. This historically notable acquisition is the largest known collection of motion picture trailers on film and contains over 60,000 items. Although their history extends nearly the length of cinema itself, theatrical trailers have not always been regarded as essential facets of the cinematic experience. Still, it is difficult to imagine a time when previews did not act as a vital liaison between audiences and features. Blurring the line between marketing tool and work of art, coming attractions are multifaceted in their function: at worst, blatant misrepresentations or ruinous messengers of key plot twists; at best, harbingers of excitement leaving wide-eyed anticipation in their wake. Some so well-crafted that they are themselves films-in-miniature, to be appreciated in their own right. Quiet Lions - City Beneath The Sea

Quiet Lions - City Beneath The Sea Think that it’s time to leave, The city beneath the sea, Cause now’ I’m over myself, over myself, I started to swim too deep, My lungs they lack the capacity, To shoulder my health, shoulder my health. For seven years I dreamed, And fed the roots of my apathy, Over again and over again, And now it visits in my sleep, I can’t believe this is happening, What have I become? ---- Cause the barricades could break, Then I’d be flooded to the ceiling, I’m done for, You’re not the only to say, That I never gave it all it needed, ---- Now it looks like we all forget, The people we’ve met, in time. But I know who you are, know who you are, It was only the other night, When we were setting the world to right, Now what have we become. ---- Cause the barricades could break, Then I’d be flooded to the ceiling, I’m done for, You’re not the only one to say, That I never gave it all it needed, -- And now it’s broken, All of my hope is washed away, Sending my body to the water, And im done.. --- So come and fish out my bones.

The City Beneath the Sea (Water from the Alam Suite) by Loong Wen Hung

04:43
(Description by Vale V Wong https://www.facebook.com/ValeVWong) [LISTEN WITH EARPHONES!!!] Loong Wen Hung started learning piano and composition from me on January the 8th 2011. I remember this date because anyone would find it hard to believe he's only been learning for a year and a half. Wen Hung has one of the highest absorbency rates I've ever seen in a student. He truly listens, and improves by leaps and bounds week after week. There is a love for music in his playing that's so real and grateful, you can feel it in his reverence for each note. I asked (forced) him to compose after two to three months of learning to play the piano, and his compositions were ambitious, colourful and determined. His techniques were largely achieved by a great deal of Hanon work, and overly ambitious assignments, such as Mozart's 12 Variations of Twinkle Little Star. Since then, he's begun exploring all sorts of music, from Ravel to Samuel Barber, from Katy Perry to One Republic and Gershwin, it's a complete joy watching him absorb the best every kind of music has to offer. Loong Wen Hung represents Water in this Alam Suite. His piece is played a great deal of Una Corda (the left pedal) and succeeds in capturing a watery dream. His motifs are extended, often repeated and developed with a great deal of range and beauty. His piece is cinematic, with a clear visual start, to the introduction of the minor motifs which later submerge into dark rising tides. With great running colours from dreamy to lonely, angry to triumphant, he captures the sounds of pure majesty from that rise, and the piece almost ends too soon. As this is the first piece in his planned set of water works, there is a great deal the listener is left wanting. I believe that works in his favour, considering that this piece is merely the first piece in his planned series of water works from the sea. Wen Hung has recently started his music foundation course, and will continue to be exposed to more music than ever before. It is my hope that he will become one of the top composers that this country has ever seen, and judging by this work, his first Complete composition (Opus No.1) and the fact that he's only started learning the piano a year ago, it's clearly not overreaching. I've learnt that with students like Wen Hung, you never teach what's right or wrong, what you should and should not do. Instead, You show them the point of every single sound, consonant AND dissonant, and let them decide how to write their own story. I truly look forward to your compositions to come!
