These hands remain holding on to what is dead. I can't take them away. My skin is suffering. Each vein is blackening. Now everyone I meet is dying with the past. It's simple room to breathe that I have not recieved. May restoration fall on these broken wings. No time to waste, this healing must take place. Don't let the darkness consume me. Dont let the darkness get the best of me. These hands remain holding on to what is dead. Now everyone I meet is just lying like the rest. Let go of broken wings. Let go of dead beliefs. May restoration fall on those who need it most. Somali Yacht Club - The Sea (2018) (New Full Album)

53:16
The Sea is the new full length album from Somali Yacht Club. Majestic soundscapes and stoner rock vocals are in abundance on the second full release from Ukraine’s Somali Yacht Club. Sweeping groove sections will have your neck muscles working overtime trying to keep your head pointed forward, as your Chuck Taylors scream for your attention as you sway to the lazy beat. Tasteful guitar licks soar, as they lead the listener through time signature changes and mood swings. It’s not just a record that jams out spacious tones and gently echoing melodic vocals in a tossed-off manner; there is an overarching purposefulness to its fluidity and to its presentation, which begins with the opening salvo provided by the extended “Vero” and “Religion of Man” and moves directly into the Elder-style heavy-prog shimmer of the shortest inclusion, “Blood Leave a Trail,” which still has enough swirl to not be a contrast in its 6:20 run. If one wanted, I suppose, they could hear The Sea and simply get lost in the wash of “Vero” and suddenly snap back to consciousness after the finale of “Crows” has ended, but whether it’s Arthur‘s bassline as the foundation for the volume swell of effects at the start of “Hydrophobia” or the swinging taps on Lesyk‘s ride cymbal as “Vero” jazzily approaches its peaceful, atmospheric midsection, the collection is rife with details that warrant active engagement. In other words, the more one puts into hearing it, the more satisfaction one is likely to reap from The Sea on the whole. To wit, the initial pairing of “Vero” and “Religion of Man” is perhaps the most obvious showcase of intent on the part of Somali Yacht Club in terms of their desire to fully engage and hypnotize, and while they come close to earning the immediate points of opening with their longest track — there should be a partial credit system for the salvo as a whole. All throughout The Sea, the band demonstrate an ability to transition between wide-cast ambience and more directly weighted, riffier fare, and that’s true of the linear build in the second half of “Vero” as well as it picks up past the seven-minute mark and lumbers to its exciting conclusion, but it’s the patience there and in “Religion of Man” as well (speaking of details: the low-end angularity and feedback interplay in the eighth minute has to be heard to be believed) that makes the execution such a thrill to fully embrace and in tempo as much as construction, the songs are truly progressive in the sense of being thoughtful works manifesting a decisive creative growth. This Adorable Sea Slug is a Sneaky Little Thief | Deep Look

These brightly-colored sea slugs aren't above stealing weapons from their prey. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. The summer months bring low morning tides along the California coast, providing an opportunity to see one of the state’s most unusual inhabitants, sea slugs. Also called nudibranchs, many of these relatives of snails are brightly colored and stand out among the seaweed and anemones living next to them in tidepools. “Some of them are bright red, blue, yellow -- you name it,” said Terry Gosliner, senior curator of invertebrate zoology and geology at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. “They're kind of designer slugs.” But without a protective shell, big jaws or sharp claws, how do these squishy little creatures get away with such flamboyant colors in a habitat full of predators? As it turns out, the nudibranchs’ colors serve as a warning to predators: These sea slugs are packing some very sophisticated defenses. And some aren’t above stealing weapons from their prey. Gosliner and Brenna Green and Emily Otstott, graduate students at San Francisco State University, were out at dawn earlier this summer searching tidepools and floating docks around the Bay Area. They want to learn more about how these delicate little sea slugs survive and how changing ocean temperatures might threaten their futures. Nudibranchs come in a staggering variety of shapes and sizes. Many accumulate toxic or bad-tasting chemicals from their prey, causing predators like fish and crabs to learn that the flashy colors mean the nudibranch wouldn’t make a good meal. --- What are nudibranchs? Nudibranchs are snails that lost their shell over evolutionary time. Since they don’t have a shell for protection, they have to use other ways to defend themselves like accumulating toxic chemicals in their flesh to make them taste bad to predators. Some species of nudibranchs eat relatives of jellyfish and accumulate the stingers within their bodies for defense. --- Why do nudibranchs have such bright colors? The bright colors serve as a signal to the nudibranch’s predators that they are not good to eat. If a fish or crab bites a nudibranch, it learns to associate the bad taste with the bright colors which tends to make them reluctant to bite a nudibranch with those colors in the future. --- What does nudibranch mean? The word nudibranch comes from Latin. It means naked gills. They got that name because some species of nudibranchs have an exposed ring of gills on their back that they use to breath. ---+ Read the entire article on KQED Science: https://www.kqed.org/science/1929993/this-adorable-sea-slug-is-a-sneaky-little-thief ---+ For more information: Learn more about Terry Gosliner’s work with nudibranchs https://www.calacademy.org/staff/ibss/invertebrate-zoology-and-geology/terrence-gosliner Learn more about Chris Lowe’s work with plankton http://lowe.stanford.edu/ Learn more about Jessica Goodheart’s study of nematocyst sequestration https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/ivb.12154 ---+ More Great Deep Look episodes: From Drifter to Dynamo: The Story of Plankton | Deep Look https://youtu.be/jUvJ5ANH86I For Pacific Mole Crabs It's Dig or Die | Deep Look https://youtu.be/tfoYD8pAsMw The Amazing Life of Sand | Deep Look https://youtu.be/VkrQ9QuKprE ---+ See some great videos and documentaries from PBS Digital Studios! Learn more about the Sea Org here: http://bit.ly/WhatIsTheSeaOrg WHAT IS THE SEA ORGANIZATION or "Sea Org?" The Sea Organization is a religious order for the Scientology religion and is composed of the singularly most dedicated Scientologists—individuals who have committed their lives to the volunteer service of their religion. The Sea Organization is a fraternal religious order and is not incorporated. Members of the Sea Organization are therefore wholly responsible to the Church of Scientology to which they are assigned and are responsible, as are all other staff, to officers and directors of that Church. The Sea Organization was established in 1967 and once operated from a number of ships. It was formed to assist L. Ron Hubbard with advanced research operations and supervise Church organizations around the world. The Sea Organization is entrusted to minister the advanced services of Scientology. The Sea Organization retains its traditional name, although today the majority of its members are based on land. In keeping with the tradition of the order’s inception, however, they still wear maritime-style uniforms and have ranks and ratings. The Sea Organization Motor Vessel Freewinds is entirely staffed by members of the Sea Organization. Utilizing the training materials developed by L. Ron Hubbard in the early days of the Sea Organization, the Freewinds has the best safety and service record of any ship in the Caribbean. As volunteers and members of a religious order, Sea Organization members work long hours and live communally with housing, meals, uniforms, medical and dental care, transport and all expenses associated with their duties provided by the Church. They also receive an allowance to purchase personal items, as all of their other expenses are fully covered by the Church. Sea Organization members participate in Scientology training and auditing during a portion of each day, but otherwise dedicate themselves to furthering the objectives of Scientology through their particular functions. Positions in the Sea Organization are analogous to that of members of religious orders in other religions. They are at the forefront of spearheading the Church’s massive social mission, including the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education campaign, the largest human rights education campaign and many another global program that touches the lives of millions. Sea Organization members are acutely aware of the world in which they live, as their service is dedicated to helping Mankind. They do not live cloistered lives, but are very much a part of society. Today, some five thousand members of the Sea Organization hold staff positions in upper-level Scientology Church organizations around the world, ensuring the religion is available to the millions of Scientology parishioners who live and work outside the Church. The worldwide dissemination center for the Scientology religion, Golden Era Productions, manned by the Sea Org, staff and management, produces all audiovisual information and training materials for use within Scientology Churches. It also produces films, public service announcements and other materials centered on Church-sponsored social betterment activities and humanitarian initiatives. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has revolutionized our picture of the early history of Judaism and of the Jewish background of early Christianity. With the completion of the publication of the entire scrolls collection, it is now possible to draw significant conclusions from this treasure trove of ancient documents. This illustrated lecture by Professor Lawrence Schiffman will discuss the discovery of the scrolls, the archaeology of Qumran where the scrolls were unearthed, the nature of the library, and its significance for the study of Judaism, Christianity and their common destiny. What Do The Dead Sea Scrolls Teach Us About The Bible - Sidnie White Crawford

50:22
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls have caused a revolution in scholarship concerning the canon and text of the Hebrew Bible. Fully 25% of the scrolls discovered in the region of the Dead Sea are copies of the books of the Hebrew Bible. The lecture will reveal what new information the scrolls have given us about the growth of the biblical text and the development of the canon, explaining what we now know, that the text of the Bible was fluid, not fixed, and that Jews did not all agree on what books constituted sacred scripture. Sidnie White Crawford The Willa Cather Professor of Classics and Religious Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is a world-renowned expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls, she was part of the editorial team that published the scrolls in the 1980s and 90s. She has published several books on the scrolls, including her most recent, Rewriting Scripture in Second Temple Times (Eerdmans). A sought-after speaker, Dr. Crawford has presented papers in Israel, Great Britain, Finland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Japan. In November she was a featured speaker at the 500th anniversary celebration of the Complutensian Polyglot Bible in Madrid, Spain. She is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem, a trustee of the American Schools of Oriental Research, and a member of the Council of the Society of Biblical Literature. She belongs to several editorial boards, including Hermeneia and the Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception. Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls and Why Were They Forgotten? - A Lecture by Rachel Elior

01:23:53
Who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls? Why were they forgotten? During his recent visit to Israel, President Barack Obama began his itinerary with a viewing of the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Officials took this occasion to underscore the continuity from biblical times to the present exemplified by these most ancient of biblical scrolls. Of course, examination of the Dead Sea Scrolls and of the ways they have been understood in ancient and in modern times afford evidence not only of continuity but also of dispute and disagreement. In her Israel Studies Lecture, "Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls and Why Were They Forgotten," Rachel Elior offers an overview of the provenance of the scrolls and her assessment of their significance in both ancient Judaism and modern scholarship. Rachel Elior is John and Golda Cohen Professor of Jewish Philosophy and Jewish Mystical Thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Israel Studies Professor for Spring Quarter 2013 at the University of Chicago Divinity School. She is teaching a course at UChicago, "Major Issues in the Study of Jewish Mysticism: Between Kabbalah and Hasidism." Professor Elior is the fourth visiting faculty member at the Divinity School's Religion and Culture in the Twenty-first Century: Perspectives from Israel program, made possible through the generous support of the Israel Studies Project of the Jewish Federation of Chicago. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/UCHICAGOytSubscribe About #UChicago: A destination for inquiry, research, and education, the University of Chicago empowers scholars to challenge conventional thinking. Moses Parts the Sea - The Ten Commandments (6/10) Movie CLIP (1956) HD

02:26
The Ten Commandments movie clips: http://j.mp/15vUTyR BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/sAaWEH Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: Moses (Charlton Heston) parts the Red Sea for the Hebrews to escape the Egyptians' pursuit. FILM DESCRIPTION: Based on the Holy Scriptures, with additional dialogue by several other hands, The Ten Commandments was the last film directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The story relates the life of Moses, from the time he was discovered in the bullrushes as an infant by the pharoah's daughter, to his long, hard struggle to free the Hebrews from their slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Moses (Charlton Heston) starts out "in solid" as Pharoah's adopted son (and a whiz at designing pyramids, dispensing such construction-site advice as "Blood makes poor mortar"), but when he discovers his true Hebrew heritage, he attempts to make life easier for his people. Banished by his jealous half-brother Rameses (Yul Brynner), Moses returns fully bearded to Pharoah's court, warning that he's had a message from God and that the Egyptians had better free the Hebrews post-haste if they know what's good for them. Only after the Deadly Plagues have decimated Egypt does Rameses give in. As the Hebrews reach the Red Sea, they discover that Rameses has gone back on his word and plans to have them all killed. But Moses rescues his people with a little Divine legerdemain by parting the Seas. Later, Moses is again confronted by God on Mt. Sinai, who delivers unto him the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, the Hebrews, led by the duplicitous Dathan (Edward G. Robinson), are forgetting their religion and behaving like libertines. "Where's your Moses now?" brays Dathan in the manner of a Lower East Side gangster. He soon finds out. DeMille's The Ten Commandments may not be the most subtle and sophisticated entertainment ever concocted, but it tells its story with a clarity and vitality that few Biblical scholars have ever been able to duplicate. It is very likely the most eventful 219 minutes ever recorded to film--and who's to say that Nefertiri (Anne Baxter) didn't make speeches like, "Oh, Moses, Moses, you splendid, stubborn, adorable fool"? The Dead Sea Scrolls: Paul and the Works of the Law

10:58
In this video, Dr. John Bergsma, an expert in the Dead Sea Scrolls, discusses how the Dead Sea Scrolls helps us to understand what Paul means by the phrase "works of the law." The Dead Sea Scrolls contain the only other use of "works of the law" outside of the writings of Paul, thus it helps us to understand what this phrase means. This then sheds light on the justification debate that often takes place between catholics and protestants. Nietzsche Documentary : Sea of Faith . Don Cupitt

The Friedrich Nietzsche section filleted from Don Cupitt's BBC documentary 'Sea of Faith'. (God is Dead, Gott ist Tot, Eternal Return, Ewige Wiederkunft, Superman, Ubermensch, Amor fati, Eternal Recurrence). (http://youtu.be/CsD50TdmZEs Full Episode: Wittgenstein too!) The music heard end towards the end of the clip is from Richard Wagner's Gotterdammerung. SoF: (Full Series Playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVUIaMDAYwqjMlxhXDehb4k8Oqa5n5KAP) In this rich and strange series of 6 programmes the philosopher Revd Professor Don Cupitt discursively explores how Christian thought nurtured, and responded to an increasingly materialist/realist/rationalist modern world-view. Cupitt consideredly meanders through the works and lives of a miscellany of thoughtful coves including Friedrich Nietzsche, Galileo, Pascal, David Friedrich Strauss, Kierkegaard, Jung, Schopenhaurer, Annie Besant, Vivekananda, Albert Schweitzer, Ludwig Wittgenstein and others. This learned, yet accessible, & frankly slightly odd series, is just the sort of thing you don't see on TV anymore. From episode 6 of Sea of Faith: "The New World". 1984 BBC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eternal recurrence, Parable of the Madman, Parabel der tolle Mensch Death of God, Der Gottes Tod, Revaluation of all values, Umwertung aller Werte, Midday, Mittag, nihilism, Nihilismus. Philosophy of Religion, Nietzsche Doc, western thought, Non-realist christian, Nietzsche Documentary.
