Bioluminescent Bay Glows Due to Glittery Algae Known As 'Sea Sparkle' | New York Post
Bioluminescent algae in Jervis Bay, Australia, create spectacular sights at night. Japan’s Post Box Under the Sea
When the small Japanese seaside town of Susami needed a tourism boost, an unlikely resident came to the rescue: the town’s postmaster. Together with the local diving community, former postmaster Toshihiko Matsumoto helped establish the world’s first underwater mailbox. Those willing to make the plunge can strap on a wetsuit and mail letters from 30 feet under the sea. Incredibly, dive shop owner Hiroaki Yamatani descends each day to collect and deliver these letters to the post office. To date, almost 38,000 letters have been sent from under the sea. Australia. History of Australia in a Nutshell.
The animated history of Australia in a nutshell. For centuries, rumors and legends are spreading among the traders, about the Terra Australis Incognita, unknown southern land. For Europeans, this is only a tale. However, in the middle of the sixteenth century, a series of world maps are created, so-called 'the maps from Dieppe,' documenting the latest Portuguese explorations, on which a mysterious land is found, called 'Le Grand Java.' A few centuries later, the map will be considered by some as the evidence of discovering Australia by Portuguese. Soon after, in sixteen-o-five a Dutch trader, Willem Janszoon, sets sails from the Dutch East Indies to search for a new land. According to his plan, he arrives at an unknown destination and names it 'Keer-Weer.' As it turns out, later on, it is Australia, modern-day Cape York. Since that moment, the sea route is frequented by the Dutch ships, which sometimes, sailing too far away are sighting the coast of Terra Australis. The Dutch, bring Terra Australis to the world maps. In sixteen-eighty-eight, William Dampier sets out on a voyage around the New Holland, returns and convinces the Admiralty to support another expedition. In August seventeen-sixty-eight, HMS Bark the Endeavor, under the command of Captain James Cook, sets sails from England. In the year seventeen-seventy arrives at the coast of New Holland and disembarks in several spots, including Botany Bay and Possession Island and gives the land a name - the New South Wales. Cook's expedition spreads the idea to colonize the new land, and with losing the thirteen colonies, the idea grows stronger. During that time, many people in Britain live in poverty and the penalty for theft is high. Choosing between hunger, and thievery, many Brits are choosing the theft and simultaneously overpopulates the local prisons. Officially to reduce the criminal population, and unofficially to make use of the human resources British Government sends out an expedition to create a penal colony and a bridgehead for further British colonization. In seventeen-eighty-eight under the patronage of Lord Sydney, an expedition arrives at Botany Bay under the command of Arthur Philip, carrying seven hundred and thirty convicts and two hundred and fifty free men plus the crew. Discovers a large bay, founds a settlement and names it after the patron of the expedition, Sydney. British push forward, and in eighteen-twenty-seven Edmund Lockyer founds Albany in modern-day Western Australia. Britain claims the entire continent. Along the increase of the free people, resistance grows, people do not want the penal status of the land. Finally, the British Parliament convinced, agrees to stop sending convicts to some of the colonies. Since eighteen-forty sending criminals will be gradually reduced, until the tenth of January eighteen-sixty-eight when the last shipment of convicts will reach the Western Australia. In eighteen-twenty-five the population equals about sixty thousand people, to reach four hundred-fifty thousand in eighteen-fifty-one, to touch, during a gold rush, over a million and fifty thousand people, just ten years later. Locally, Aborigines are oppressed. At the beginning of colonization, Aborigines not knowing the concept of property, do no know what treaties with the Europeans can bring. They are bringing disease and plagues decimating aborigines, and also the conquest of the natives pushed out from their homelands. Until the nineteen-sixty-seven, Aborigines, will not be considered as equal inhabitants and citizens of their native land. On the first of January nineteen-o-one, a dominion of the Commonwealth of Australia is proclaimed, and Sir Edmund Burton becomes the first prime minister of the federation. Along with the outbreak of the First World War, thousands of young people on a distant continent, are at war which they do not understand. Thousands of dead and wounded shock Australian public opinion, and make them realize the difference between the British and Australian interests. The Second World War breaks out. Like two decades earlier, Australia joins war along with Britain. However, the British are being defeated in the far east. Japan quickly takes new territories. Hong Kong falls. Singapore falls. Australia is under threat. The United Kingdom put on the defensive in Europe and cannot provide support. A turning point occurs. ANZAC asks the United States for protection. Along with its victories, the US takes the opportunity to pull Australia and New Zealand under its influence. The war in Europe ends and soon after also on the Pacific, the new world order is brought to life.

It is part of my DNA. It conveys all things I can't put into words. Life, loss, love, spirit. As I evolve so too does 'Ocean'. The song was first recorded as part of my first album/cassette, "Searching For Heritage", which I sold when I busked, then for my first self-titled studio album 12 years ago -- "John Butler (1998)". The song has been watched online incredibly over 25 million times in various formats, nearly always live, be it from MusicMax Sessions or from one of the many festivals I have had the pleasure to play. I'd like to thank you for your continued support over all these years; it means so much to me. I would like to thank you by offering this first studio recording of 'Ocean' in over a decade as a free download. I recorded it in my favourite studio, The Compound here in Fremantle Western Australia, a studio you helped me build. This marks just another fleeting moment in a career that is very much ongoing. I look forward to bringing you many new songs and albums into the future and continuing this amazing journey with you ALL. THANK YOU, J.B"

How Earth Would Look If All The Ice Melted
We learned last year that many of the effects of climate change are irreversible. Sea levels have been rising at a greater rate year after year, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates they could rise by another meter or more by the end of this century. As National Geographic showed us in 2013, sea levels would rise by 216 feet if all the land ice on the planet were to melt. This would dramatically reshape the continents and drown many of the world's major cities. 26-foot-long sea worm discovered by divers off New Zealand coast | New York Post
Two divers came across a spectacular site while swimming off the coast of New Zealand. They discovered a giant creature, likely a pyrosome, gently floating in the waters. While these floating colonies of zooids have been known to get caught in fishing nets, a specimen this large is an uncommon site. Ancient sea landslide found in Australia - Pigeon Post News
Pigeon Post News - Ancient undersea landslide discovered in Australia. Subscribe for more: https://goo.gl/sA8MMQ +++ Scientists have discovered evidence of a massive ancient undersea landslide next to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The Gloria Knolls Slide is at least 300,000 years old and 32 cubic km in volume, or 30 times the size of Uluru, a rock landmark in central Australia. The landslide could also have triggered a tsunami, the international team says. The scientists said debris from the landslide, found as deep as 1,350m (4,430ft) below the sea, also provided clues about hidden marine life. The team made the discovery while conducting three-dimensional mapping of ancient reefs in the Queensland Trough, a vast basin adjoining the Great Barrier Reef. Coral fossils Dr Robin Beaman, from Queensland's James Cook University, said the researchers located a cluster of hills, or knolls, more than 1,100m beneath the surface. "What we discovered was the smoking gun," he told the BBC. "It was quite clear that those knolls were the remains of a very large undersea landslide that had occurred some time ago." That time was at least 300,000 years ago, he said, because coral fossils collected from the knolls went back that far, and the landslide would have predated them. He described it as "catastrophic collapse" because the knolls - as long as 3.6km (2.2 miles) - were found 30km from their original location. Other evidence of the landslide would have been buried over time, he said. +++ Source: BBC

It is the policy of the Australian government to not accept immigrants and refugees coming to the continent by boat. Disappearance of the Kaz II On April 15, 2007, a trio of novice sailors departed from the Australian Whitsunday islands in a newly-purchased yacht called the Kaz II. The skipper, Des Batten, and two brothers named Peter and John Tunstead, were headed home to Western Australia and expected the trip to take around two months. 7. Cannibal Shark In November 2003, researchers tagged a nine-foot-long female great white shark off the southwestern Australian coast with the goal of recording her behaviour, ambient temperatures and depth. According to data, four months later she dove to a depth of roughly 1,900 feet (580 meters), suggesting she was attacked by something much bigger in the depths of the ocean. 6. 1968 Submarine Disappearances In 1968, four naval submarines mysteriously vanished. It was the deadliest post-World War II year for submariners. The disappearances occurred in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In total, 318 sailors from Israel, the Soviet Union, France, and the United States were never seen again and were presumed to have entered eternal rest at sea. 5. Bermuda Triangle The Bermuda Triangle is a roughly 500,000-square-mile parcel of ocean between Bermuda, the Greater Antilles, and the Atlantic coast of the Florida panhandle. It’s infamous for its unexplainable disappearances over the years, including over 50 ships and at least 20 airplanes. 4. The Phantom Island of Bermeja To the northwest of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico lies an island - well, not anymore, actually. The uninhabited island is - or was - known as Bermeja and it first appeared on a Portuguese map in 1535. Maps drawn by Spanish explorers during the 16th and 17th centuries commonly featured Bermeja, with just slight variations in its location and name, which was to be expected back then. 3. Milky Sea Phenomenon While most ocean mysteries of the past, such as the existence of monsters, have long-since been debunked by the scientific community, one strange marvel still exists, but is yet to be explained. It’s called the milky sea phenomenon. The spectacle was first mentioned by author Jules Verne in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It wasn’t recorded in modern logs until 1995, when the British merchant vessel the SS Lima made note of it while sailing in the Indian Ocean. 2. Blobus Purplus In 2016, scientists from Ocean Exploration Trust aboard the research ship E/V Nautilus discovered an enigmatic purple blob on the ocean floor near the Channel Island National Marine Sanctuary off California, deep in the Arguello Canyon. They recovered the specimen using a remotely operated vehicle and once they brought it up, everyone on board was confused. 1. “Bloop” Sound In 1997, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recorded an extremely loud, ultralow-frequency, never-before-heard sound in the South Pacific. If you don't remember, here it is. We Lost The Sea - Departure Songs (Full Album)
We Lost The Sea are an Instrumental band from Sydney Australia. Crushing guitar noise with dark melodic atmospherics. Departure Songs (2015) 1. A Gallant Gentleman: 00:00 2. Bogatyri: 06:05 3. The Last Dive of David Shaw: 17:49 4. Challenger part 1 - Flight: 34:46 5. Challenger part 2 - A Swan Song: 58:30 Departure Songs is inspired by failed, yet epic and honourable journeys or events throughout history where people have done extraordinary things for the greater good of those around them, and the progress of the human race itself. This is a celebration and a tribute. Each song has it’s own story and is a soundtrack to that story. This is our 3rd album and our first instrumental album. We’re exploring new ground and exploring ourselves in the past 2 and a bit years since Chris went on his own journey. It’s slightly bleak with shimmers of hope and layers of emotion. It’s a tribute and a catharsis of emotion and honesty. (We Lost The Sea)

Australia's Vegan Fight | 101 East
It is 5.30am in Melbourne, Australia. Animal rights activists wait anxiously in the dark, before their leader Kristin Leigh gives the signal that it is time to go. She directs them to the heart of the city, where they halt traffic for hours. It is one of a string of protests in the activists' fight to stop farmers from raising animals for human consumption. Their tactics, such as trespassing on farms and stealing livestock, are controversial. "I don't think anyone has the right to break onto anyone's property," says Brian Ahmed, who has had activists trespass on his caged-egg farm outside Melbourne. He wants tougher trespass laws. "I think if this continues, we're going to end up in a situation where someone will be hurt. When you're woken up in the middle of the night, how they protect themselves might be dangerous. Most farmers have access to firearms," he says. But activists like Kristin Leigh, who admits she has stolen livestock from farms and abattoirs, say these tactics are necessary to protect animals. "I can understand that people will feel confronted by that," she says. "But I feel like the end objective justifies that. I feel like we're not going to get there easily. There's going to be some people who feel intimidated, going to feel threatened." With activists vowing to never give up until the world is completely vegan, 101 East investigates the bitter divide over Australia's farm animals. - More from 101 East on: YouTube - http://aje.io/101eastYT Facebook - http://facebook.com/101east Twitter - http://twitter.com/aj101east Instagram - http://instagram.com/aj101east Website - http://aljazeera.com/101east - - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: https://www.aljazeera.com/

Alien sea creature's mass of tentacles baffles locals after washing up on an Australian beach
Alien sea creature's mass of tentacles baffles locals after washing up on an Australian beach.A bizarre creature resembling an alien has washed up on a beach in Western Australia and baffled locals. A picture of the creature was posted online by a Reddit user who said it was found on the beach in Broome, on the northern coast of WA, by his mother and girlfriend. The image shows the creature on the sand with dozens of mottled-black tentacles surrounding what appears to be an inflated appendage.Reddit users were also baffled by the creature with some commenters speculating what it could be. 'What the heck?' said one commenter. 'Quite the creature,' another said. Eventually, a consensus seemed to be reached that the creature was in fact a sea anemone that had been flipped upside down after being beached on the shore. 'The armed anemone. Also called the striped anemone,' one commenter said. 'I think you are correct,' another commenter said. The armed anemone is found in the tropical waters off the coast of Western Australia and can grow up to 50cm. They usually have more colour although Reddit users specualted that it had been bleached by the sun. It also has a venemous sting that can be extremely painful to humans and can take months to heal. #alienseacreature #alien #seacreater **************** *********Copyright Issues: [email protected] ****** Disclaimer: ========= Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
