Treating Mites With Mite Away Quick Strips (MAQS)

05:30
Did you know Varroa mites are the number 1 killing pest of honeybees? For this reason treating for mites inside the bee colonies is a must for their survival. Mites infect the bees with viruses that shorten their life. In most cases, these viruses cause the colony to collapse over winter. In this video, I show the complete process in using Mite Away Quick Strips (MAQS) to treat for mites. I will show everything you need to know to treat your own bee hives. This treatment takes 7 days to complete and can be done with the honey supers on. ******************************************** **UPDATED MAQS TREATMENT REQUIREMENTS: http://nodglobal.com/application-usa/ ******************************************** Would you like to know the details on Mite Away Quick Strips? Feeding Pollen Patties To Bees (Pollen Substitute)

04:50
In order for a honey bee colony to thrive the population needs to grow fast. As winter changes to spring, trees and plants start to produce pollen which the bees need to raise more bees. Pollen is much needed protein. Pollen patties are sometimes fed as a substitute. They are used for several reasons during the bee seasons. One of the main reasons is during times of nectar dearth. In this video I show how to properly place a pollen patty in a bee hive. ***************************************************** Purchase 10 Pounds Of Pre-made Patties: https://goo.gl/uZe8wY Pro Bee 10 Pound Pail (Dry mix): http://amzn.to/2sHS0XT ****************************************************** *Beekeeping Equipment I Use: • Favorite Hive Tool: http://amzn.to/2r8MkI0 • Preferred Smoker: http://amzn.to/2rl8GX5 • Veil: http://amzn.to/2rSgCQb • Vented Bee Jacket: http://amzn.to/2rlw8U0 • Preferred Queen Excluder: http://amzn.to/2qyWSxl • 10 Frames Complete Painted Hive Kit: http://amzn.to/2rSguQL • 10 Deep Frames w/ Cell Rite Foundation: http://amzn.to/2qDRqZa *Beekeeping Books I like • The Beekeeper Bible: http://amzn.to/2qDPdwB • Beekeeping For Dummies: http://amzn.to/2qDK8EC • Queen Rearing Essentials: http://amzn.to/2qDpogc ****************************************************** Have a question? Bees In The House/ The Observation Hive

04:07
A observation hive is a bee hive with a glass window or sides for viewing honey bees without disturbing them. Honey bees are very social insects and communicate with pheromones and by dancing. That's right, they do what is called the waggle dance which is how a single bee tells the colony where the food source is. Recently I installed a observation hive in our home. Though I have kept bees for a few years now. The observation hive has given me the chance to see what the bees are doing without any interruptions (like smoking them). Honey bees are social insects and watching them through the glass you can observe several tasks being obtained. Although I do not leave glass uncovered for extended periods. The light is bothersome to the bees. In this short clip you will see some of these actions I witnessed. Beekeeping / Why Aren't The Bees Building Comb / Plastic Foundation Issues

06:34
A lot of beekeepers use plastic foundation in their bee hive frames. Sometimes it can be a challenge to get the honey bees to draw (build) comb on it, this is mainly due the coating of wax it has applied to the foundation. In this video, you will learn how to apply a coating of beeswax to the foundation for better acceptance. Afterwards your bees will be building comb like crazy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YouTube Channel: http://YouTube.com/c/JasonChrismanBees Website/Blog: https://honeycomb-hill-beekeeping.blogspot.com/ FaceBook: http://fb.me/JCsHoneybees Twitter: https://twitter.com/JCs_Bees ✉ Email: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you have a YouTube channel? Explaining A Queen Castle?

04:01
Beekeepers use a queen castle to start new colonies. A queen castle is divided into 4 equal sections with their own entrances. Each section holds 2 deep frames. This video will help you further understand what a queen castle is. A QUEEN CASTLE CAN BE USED A FEW DIFFERENT WAYS: 1. You can give each section 2 frames of capped brood and bees. Then after 24 hours give them a queen cell. 2. You can give each section a frame of capped brood, a frame with eggs, and bees. The bees will realize they are queen-less and raise their own queen. Same as making any split but with a castle less is needed. 3.You can also use a castle to get queens mated. **It's important to keep these bees feed. Not having many foragers at first put's them in a pinch. Once brood starts to hatch younger house bees will be promoted and this will get you your foraging bees. Adding Queen Cells To Queen Castle

03:53
In this video, I show how to add queen cells to a queen-less split in my queena castle. Each section in the castle holds queen less 2 frame splits. The frames have no young lava (mostly capped brood). They were placed in the castle 24 hours before this video. Always keeps in mind that drones are need to mate queens. If you decide to rear a few queens to start new colonies one should always make sure drones are present. To early or late in the season would result in queens not getting mated and the splits would eventually fall to their death. Any question regarding this topic or anything about beekeeping just ask! Preparing Honeybees For Winter/ Ventilation/ Part 2 of 6

05:58
Preparing bee hives for winter. This is the 2nd video of this series (Bee Hive Winter preparation). In this video, I go over ventilation and moisture control in a bee hive. Moisture kills more bees during the winter months than the cold air itself. So keeping condensation down in the hive is mandatory. When honey bees cluster during winter the heat coming from the clusters rises, naturally. With the outside temperature being colder than the heat the cluster is producing causing condensation on the inner cover. This condensation drips on the cluster of bees killing them. Bee can tolerate cold but getting them wet along with being cold is a sure fire way to kill them. In this video I will show you a few tricks to prevent moisture in a bee hive. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: " Caging A Queen Bee " ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M8iB_Kus_w -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Relocating A Bee Hive / 3 Feet Or 3 Miles Rule

07:53
Did you know there are rules that apply when moving a bee hive to a new location for it to go successfully? This is because honey bees memorize the hives location based on factors like, the position of the sun and landmarks. A rule of thumb beekeepers go by when moving bee hives is called, the "3 foot or 3 mile" rule. Some believe there is little truth to this rule but I think it's a good guide line for any new beekeeper until they understand how bees navigate. Otherwise, you risk losing bees at the old location. In this video, you will learn some of the very basics about how bees find and memorize the colonies location. You will also learn what the "3 feet or 3 mile rule" is. *********************************************** My Favorite Beekeeping Equipment *Beekeeping Equipment I Use: • Favorite Hive Tool: http://amzn.to/2r8MkI0 • Preferred Smoker: http://amzn.to/2rl8GX5 • Veil: http://amzn.to/2rSgCQb • Vented Bee Jacket: http://amzn.to/2rlw8U0 • Preferred Queen Excluder: http://amzn.to/2qyWSxl • 10 Frames Complete Painted Hive Kit: http://amzn.to/2rSguQL • 10 Deep Frames w/ Cell Rite Foundation: http://amzn.to/2qDRqZa *Queen Rearing Equipment • Grafting Frame w/ Cups: http://amzn.to/2rK15S5 • Hair Roller Cages: http://amzn.to/2rJVNpQ • California Mini Cages: http://amzn.to/2rK8DUN • Queen Bee Marking Tube: http://amzn.to/2suW4uL • Queen Marking Pens: http://amzn.to/2qXlvD3 • Nicot Queen Rearing System: http://amzn.to/2qXpa3Q *Beekeeping Books I like • The Beekeeper Bible: http://amzn.to/2qDPdwB • Beekeeping For Dummies: http://amzn.to/2qDK8EC • Queen Rearing Essentials: http://amzn.to/2qDpogc ********************************************** Have a question? How To Combining Two Bee Hives Together

03:18
As winter grows closer and bee season comes to a end for the year. I spent some time checking my hives to make sure they are ready. Subscribe to my channel to get my weekly uploads: http://www.youtube.com/creekroad1 In this video I will show you how to combined two bee hives into one. This is done when a couple of hives are weak or queen-less. It's very important to make sure that only one hive of the two being combined is queen right. Combining hives is not hard or complex. You only need to place a single piece of standard newspaper between to two colonies. The newspaper should have a few small holes to let the smells for one hive transfer to the other. After roughly 3-4 days the colonies will be one. ANOTHER IMPORTANT STEP: If the hives being combined have more than a couple of feet between them. It's best to move them more than 3 miles to do the combined. The reason is if you would move one of the hives to combined it with another. Once those bees take flight the will end up going back to their old location. This can cause problems, so to avoid this find a place to put hive over three miles away. If needed you can move them back after roughly four days. Easy To Make Candy Boards For Honey Bees

06:40
It's that time of the year for northern beekeepers to make sure their bees have plenty of food. By this time of the winter the bees have worked their way through the hive eating away at food stores. With spring around the corner we need to do our part to keep them alive. This recipe takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Afterwards let candy boards cool for an hour before moving them. Wait for a day in at least the mid 40's before adding candy to colony. I had to add empty supers to each hive to allow room for the candy. Now go feed your bees. Using Nozevit Plus To Prevent Nosema - Beekeeping

01:57
Nosema is a disease caused by fungi spores in the bees gut. The spore count is at it's highest during winter when bees are not able to go out and defecate. A sure sign of Nosema is a hive covered in fecal matter on a warm winter day. Colonies infected with high Nosema spores have a hard time buildup during the spring. Without treatment the bees are slow to get started. As spring progresses the spore count drops because the bee a able to defecate on a normal basis. Some bees stay infected all season long which infects the colony again during winter. Nosevit plus is a certified organic treatment. Studies show bees treated with Nozevit are very vigorous. Promoting rapid buildup in the spring. Nozevit Plus can also be mixed in with protein patties. Using Poultry For Honeybee Pest Control

02:43
In nature there are pests. Honey bees battle many of them every year. Chickens can be a great way to control outdoor pest. A lot of people think bees can't be mixed with chickens but I have done it for years without any issues. The chickens do a great job keeping insects away from the bee hives. Check out some of the great benefits poultry can offer a beekeeper or anyone for that matter.

A nuc, is a small bee colony with an active queen bee. Nucs are a great way to get started beekeeping. It has advantages over buying a package of bees. With a nuc the colony is already established where the package of bee is not. A nuc is usually 5 frames and in most cases it's loaded with bees of all ages. Once a nuc is purchased it's usually ready to be transferred to a 10 frame deep box. Checking The Bee Hives/ Warm Winter Day

06:19
Checking the bee hives on a warm winter day. During the winter if a warm day (above 55 degrees) presents it's self it's a good idea to make sure your honey bees have enough food to survive till spring. During this simple inspection any dead bees blocking the hive entrance should be removed. These bees are most likely your fall bees dying off. This is normal. During the winter on warm days the bees fly for a couple reasons. 1. They need to go to the restroom. Which they will hold until a warm day comes along. 2. They like to keep the hive clean. So removing dead bees and any foreign material is normal. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: " Caging A Queen Bee " ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M8iB_Kus_w -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Setting Up Foundation Less Frames For Honey

02:52
A lot of beekeepers run their hives with foundation-less frames. In this video, I show how to setup up bee hive frames for the bees to draw out comb. Foundation-less frames should be split with frames of foundation or drawn comb. Try and start with every other frame as foundation-less. This will help guide the bees in the right direction. And avoid cross combing which is a nightmare. Feeding is recommended to encourage them to draw wax. Torpor And Why You May Be Killing Your Bees This Winter

04:40
Torpor is a state of hibernation bees go into during winter while they cluster. It's no secret bees consume stored food during winter months since there is no nectar to collect. During this time a lot of beekeepers knock on their hives to make the bees buzz loud enough to hear them. They do this knocking to make sure they are still living. This forces them to go through more food. Disturbing the cluster of bees can be deadly over time. Tune in and learn all about it.
