How We Make Our Essential Oil Diffuser Pendants

01:38
Check out how we make our essential oil diffuser pendants. It pretty simple and we carefully prepare the clay so the oils do not dissolve it and so they can't touch clothing or skin! Add your favorite essential oil, wear it immediately, and feel good all day, every day, everywhere you go! No waiting for it to dry because the oil goes in the little well on the back so it isn't near your clothing or skin. Learn more about diffusing at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/diffuser-faqs.html At this time pendants are only available at craft fairs. If you are interested in one please contact me through my website for information on how to get one to you. DIY WOODEN SOAP DECKS

01:11
A short video showing how we make our simple all natural sustainable clear pine soap decks from start to finish! A soap deck is better than a soap dish because it allows the water to drain rather than pool around the soap. Using a soap deck instead of a soap dish helps soap last longer :-) Check out other DIY projects on our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/do-it-yourself.html Please like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! Refurbishing Our Old Banquet Table

Why should we throw out our old banquet table when we can refurbish it? We not only redid our old banquet table, but we gained a top for the saw horses that we can use for other tasks and projects! Our 650' Private Road Is Cleared!

02:59
Our private road/driveway is cleared! That means we have officially started building our retirement homestead! We are so excited! This is a really big endeavor for us as we are building slowly over the next few years so that we can remain debt free when we move there for our retirement (timed to coincide with the final construction of our earth sheltered home). As much as we are DIY'ers this was something we just don't have the time, experience, or machinery for. If we had already begun homesteading we might have done it differently, however we both work full time a good 4.5 hours away from our homestead so we chose to hire out the job. After all, it is 650' long driveway with a culvert and tons of trees! So because of that the driveway and homesite clearing are a pretty big investment to start with but we are looking forward to being able to enjoy time there over the next few summers in our trailer. We were pretty fortunate that the road was already somewhat cleared. We are sharing the first 300' with the snowmobile club for now and the other 350' was an old logging road that we cleared for the ATV last summer. We were lucky it went right to the homesite we chose! The next step is to have the road finished with a road fabric and covered with about 4 inches or so of crushed rock. We are also in the process of getting proposals from engineers to design our septic/leach field. Apparently that is a big deal here in the Adirondack park and needs to be done properly. And then comes the well and underground electric! How much will we do this year? We aren't sure until we find out how much more money we need to save up....LOL. That's why this is going to take a few years to complete! So follow us as we work to complete our retirement homestead dreams :-) Visit our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/... How 'NOT' to Hang A Bat House

03:03
A bat house is very worthwhile to have on a homestead! Each bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitoes in an hour! The house we hung holds a hundred bats, so well, you do the math (affiliate link to Amazon below)! This is a great way to naturally mitigate mosquito problems, especially if you have more than one bat house. When hanging the house it should face south or southeast in cooler climates (like the Adirondacks where we are) and it should be a dark color like black so they can survive the cold winters. The house should be a minimum of 10' high off the ground but if you watch the video you will see why we will need to revisit ours when the snow clears and we have better access! Homestead Dream Step 1 - Buying Land

02:04
We are a middle aged couple building a sustainable debt free homestead from scratch in the Adirondacks for our future retirement....... We finally found the perfect piece of land to begin building our future homestead on! Since the homestead will be our retirement home we were looking for a particular piece of land that met all of our requirements including location, water, and more. In this video we share what those requirements were and how we made out with respect to them. And now that we have the land, we can start building the road, bringing in electric, and eventually building our earth sheltered house. We have a three to five year plan to get this all done on a limited budget so we are excited to finally get started. Please follow us as we work to build our homestead and enjoy our land over the next few years and eventually when we move there permenantly from our home in the suburbs. How To Crochet XL Plastic Bag Holder - It Stretches!

This jumbo plastic bag holder is of medium difficulty and actually stretches to accommodate more bags! It uses chain, single crochet, and front and back post double crochet. OUR HOMESTEAD WORLD ~ USA ~ New York (Long Island & Adirondack Park)

10:09
Welcome! This is our contribution to a homestead collaboration between Danny and Wanda from Deep South Homestead in the USA and Liz Zorab from Blyther farms in the UK. The idea is to get homesteaders big and small, urban and rural, anywhere around the world (The more places the better!) to share what homesteading is like where they live. They put together a list of 15 questions to answer and after watching all the videos other homesteads contributed we couldn't wait to make our own! We hope you enjoy it and if you want to add your own video you can reach out to either (or both) Wanda and Danny and/or Liz so they can add your video to their list. You can check out the 'req's' using the links to their channels below. Questions: 1. Where in the world are you? (Country) 2. Where approximately is your homestead located? You do not have to give specifics but and east of a major city or west of would help. 3. What is the size of your homestead? 4. Is your homestead rural or urban? 5. What is the climate and weather like? 6. What is the growing season? ( first and last frost) 7. Do you have any animals? 8. What fruits, veggies, grains do you grow? 9. How do you grow your crops? organic, intensive, commercial, raised bed, container, row gardening, BTE, Greenhouse, etc 10. Do you sell any produce, animals or things you create for income? 11. Do you grow solely for your own needs? 12. Do you have health issues that impact or guide your homesteading? Do they affect how you live and work your land? 13. How long have you been homesteading? 14. Do you like homesteading? 15. What homestead activity do you like the most? POSTED SIGNS FAIL - SORT OF

02:33
Here is an update on our posted signs. We chose to redo all the signs along the front of our property. As my father says, "If you buy cheap, you get cheap!." But, we still have no regrets because we needed a lot of signs to post the perimeter of our 30 acres and they are still good for the other three sides. Everyday Kitchen Tools For Simpler Cooking

01:14
These are my everyday kitchen tools that help make cooking in the kitchen simpler! All that’s needed are a few simple tools to prepare any meal! After working all day I don't want the kitchen to be complicated at all so I do what I can to keep it simple. This is a quick video of the basic tools we use almost every day to get dinner done. We are cooking a Plated meal (from the delivery service). Both the cast iron pans and the aluminum pan not only cook amazingly well, but they clean up like a charm! I wouldn't have it any other way. Read more on our blog at: https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/blog/my-go-to-kitchen-tools-to-get-dinner-done Tools shown (Amazon affiliate links): - 8" Dexter Knife http://amzn.to/2DtbNTv - Eco Friendly Recycled Cutting Board http://amzn.to/2FLZTCh - Small Garlic Chopper http://amzn.to/2DKr289 - 12" Lodge Cast Iron Skillet http://amzn.to/2DJB21v - 11" Lodge Cast Iron Skillet http://amzn.to/2Dmx0yn - Bamboo Utensils http://amzn.to/2DKXyqs Thanks to Plated for this super simple recipe. Yes, we do get Plated delivered and believe it or not the food is fabulous, healthy, and there is plenty of it! What you see in the video is a recipe for three that we doubled to feed two additional visitors that night. Lastly, everyone thinks Plated is so expensive, however it is actually less to use them than to order out! And my husband and I have fun cooking together.... worth every penny! Why We Use A Berkey Water Filter

02:38
What's more important than clean, healthy water? Absolutely nothing and in our opinion the Berkey is one of, if not the, best water filter systems out there! It filters just about anything you can think of. You can add more of the black filters so it will filter faster, but we don't feel the need to do that. If you also want to filter out fluoride you can add additional white filters. The filters require simple cleaning only when the flow decreases enough to be noticed. They can be used for up to two years depending upon how much water you drink so despite a higher cost initially, you are changing the filters less often in the long run. One of the best things about this filtration system is that when we move to our new homestead we can easily take it with us! DIY CANOPY/CHUPPAH FOR WEDDING

00:45
My daughter wanted a wedding canopy/Chuppah for her ceremony by the beach and this DIY one was pretty easy to make! The grooms family made the birch frame and we (the brides family) made the cover. The basic size is about 8' x 8' and pieces were cut and labeled for easy set up with screws at the beach. The cover is simply 18 yards of white cotton gauze cut into two 9 yard long pieces draped over each side and meeting at the center. A few bows on the four posts creates the drapery effect and a center decorative bow stapled at the front held the pieces together. Staples were also used at the back. Read more detailed instructions on our blog at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/blog/diy-wedding-chuppah I made the giant crochet dream catcher used at the back too! You can watch my you tube video on my channel or read detailed instructions at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/blog/giant-wedding-dream-catcher. Some materials used to make the Chuppah (affiliate links): - Eight (8) Quart Metal Buckets for Corner Posts http://amzn.to/2zSuQ7a - 18 continuous yards of white cotton gauze http://amzn.to/2zW9lAy Birch can be purchased in many ways if you don't have access to your own. ETSY is a great option. HOMESITE CLEARING & Road Update

04:38
The road is done and we have pretty much finished clearing the homesite for now. Just some 'smoothing out' to do! A big thanks to Lambert Excavating in Chestertown! You did a great job Donnie😊 Next steps are to have the well dug and get the septic system installed. We are meeting with the well driller this week and the septic requires an engineer design so that is sort of holding us up right now because they are backed up until August sometime. Electric is in the works too, so stay tuned for more! Please like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! Visit our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/... Welcome to Creating A Simpler Life!

01:04
Welcome! We are are a middle aged couple building our future retirement homestead in the Adirondack Mts. so that we can live sustainably, debt-free, and comfortably on a fixed income. Since we plan on living the rest of our lives on this homestead we are carefully planning it to be energy efficient, easy to maintain, and practical for all ages. The plan is to do the road, septic, well, and electric by the end of 2019. The following year (2020) we should begin building our earth sheltered home, garage and more. We hope to be living there permanently about three years from now. Once we are living there permanently we will have to get the gardens done, build a greenhouse and prepare for our animals as well. Needless to say we have a lot to do! And trust me when I tell you we are always busy with lots of other things here on our mini suburban homestead so you can expect to see a lot of different DIY things shared here as well :-) Please share your thoughts and ideas for what we should do to make this homestead a place where we can grow old together and still be able to maintain and run it :-) Like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! 680' WELL DRILLED & ONLY 1/2 GALLON PER MINUTE! NOW WHAT?

09:26
We have a decision to make! We were finally able to have our well drilled. Unfortunately though, we went 680' down and have a water flow of only 1/2 gallon per minute. Now we need to decide what to do. We have three options... The first part of this video is where we are educated about well drilling and pumps (starts at 26 seconds) and the second half is where we discuss our three options as to what to do (starts at 7 minutes). Decisions, decisions. A big thank you to Ron, Paul, and Victor of Sterling Well Drilling. We appreciate all your hard work! **Please excuse the spelling error at the end of the video! What Kind of House Are We Planning?

What kind of house are we planning? Check out this unconventional eco friendly home and our reasons for choosing it! We are still finalizing the floor plan and still trying to think of all the things we need to incorporate while keeping the cost down so any ideas, thoughts, or comments would be welcomed! **NOTE** The model is not a true representation of the building process. There will be a layer of insulation and a barrier that goes on top of the concrete before the soil! Jump straight to the last minute of the video if you just want to see the model and how it is made. Sorry about the dark video quality. I was using my husbands camera and I still have a lot to learn! RIP GOLDIE - Our First Chicken Ever!

02:55
Our first chicken ever has passed, but she had a great life! All it took was telling my husband I wanted chickens and the next thing I knew we were building a coop out of repurposed materials! We designed it for up to 6 hens and it has worked well for us over the past 9.5 years. But this isn't about the coop. It is about the last of my first little flock of chickens. My favorite out of all of them. She was a buff orpington and she was sweet and lovable. She would let anyone hold, pet, and cuddle with her. I know, I know. We shouldn't be getting close to the animals that we take care of on a homestead. But honestly, sometimes you just can't help it. That's how it was with Goldie. She lived such a long life for a chicken and I would like to think it was because she had such a great life. We took good care of her. She free ranged. She was fed healthy foods. And she provided eggs for us for many years. I am not as attached to the chickens I currently have left, though we of course still treat them really well. I think it was just because Goldie was one of the first and I was fascinated with them when they first came to live with us. She will definitely be missed😥 Please like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! Visit our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/...
