How We Make Our Essential Oil Diffuser Pendants

01:38
Check out how we make our clay essential oil diffuser pendants. It's pretty simple and we carefully prepare the clay so the oils do not dissolve it and so they can't touch clothing or skin either! Add your favorite essential oil, wear it immediately, and feel good all day, every day, everywhere you go! There's no waiting for it to dry because the oil goes in the little well on the back so it isn't near your clothing or skin. We only need to add 1 drop to enjoy the benefits all day long! Learn more about diffusing at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/diffuser-faqs.html At this time pendants are only available at craft fairs. If you are interested in one please contact me through my website for information on how to get one to you. DIY WOODEN SOAP DECKS - Preserve Your Soaps!

01:11
A short video showing how we make our simple all natural sustainable clear pine soap decks from start to finish! A soap deck is better than a soap dish because it allows the water to drain rather than pool around the soap. Using a soap deck instead of a soap dish helps soap last longer :-) Check out other DIY projects on our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/do-it-yourself.html Please like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! Buying Raw Land For Homesteading

02:04
There is a lot to think about before choosing a piece of land for a homestead! We had a lot of requirements, but we finally found the perfect piece to begin building our future homestead on from scratch! In this video we share what those requirements were and how we made out with respect to them. We have a three to five year plan to get this all done so we can move, and it's all on a limited budget so we are excited to finally get started! Please follow us as we work to build our homestead and enjoy our land over the next few years and eventually when we move there permanently from our home in the suburbs. How To Crochet XL Plastic Bag Holder - It Stretches!

03:16
This jumbo plastic bag holder is of medium difficulty and actually stretches to accommodate more bags! It uses chain, single crochet, and front and back post double crochet. It also incorporates an elastic hair band into the bottom for pulling the bags through. Everyone that visits me says they want/need one when they see it! The one with the maroon trim hangs in my house, the one I make in the video (green trim) was made for my sister. WE'RE PLANNING AN EARTH SHELTERED HOUSE!

What kind of house are we planning? Have you dreamed of living in a cave or a hobbit house? Then check out this unconventional eco friendly home we are planning and our reasons for choosing it! We are still finalizing the floor plan and still trying to think of all the things we need to incorporate while keeping the cost down so any ideas, thoughts, or comments would be welcomed! **NOTE** The model is not a true representation of the building process. There will be a layer of insulation and a barrier that goes on top of the concrete before the soil! Jump straight to the last minute of the video if you just want to see the model and how it is made. OUR HOMESTEAD WORLD ~ USA ~ New York (Long Island & Adirondacks)

10:09
Welcome! This is our contribution to a homestead collaboration between Danny and Wanda from Deep South Homestead in the USA and Liz Zorab from Blyther farms in the UK. The idea is to get homesteaders big and small, urban and rural, anywhere around the world (The more places the better!) to share what homesteading is like where they live. They put together a list of 15 questions to answer and after watching all the videos other homesteads contributed we couldn't wait to make our own! We hope you enjoy it and if you want to add your own video you can reach out to either (or both) Wanda and Danny and/or Liz so they can add your video to their list. You can check out the 'req's' using the links to their channels below. Questions: 1. Where in the world are you? (Country) 2. Where approximately is your homestead located? You do not have to give specifics but and east of a major city or west of would help. 3. What is the size of your homestead? 4. Is your homestead rural or urban? 5. What is the climate and weather like? 6. What is the growing season? ( first and last frost) 7. Do you have any animals? 8. What fruits, veggies, grains do you grow? 9. How do you grow your crops? organic, intensive, commercial, raised bed, container, row gardening, BTE, Greenhouse, etc 10. Do you sell any produce, animals or things you create for income? 11. Do you grow solely for your own needs? 12. Do you have health issues that impact or guide your homesteading? Do they affect how you live and work your land? 13. How long have you been homesteading? 14. Do you like homesteading? 15. What homestead activity do you like the most? How 'NOT' to Hang A Bat House - But Why You Want One!

03:03
A bat house is very worthwhile to have on a homestead! ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ Click “Show More” ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ Each bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitoes in an hour! The house we hung holds a hundred bats, so well, you do the math (affiliate link to Amazon below)! This is a great way to naturally mitigate mosquito problems, especially if you have more than one bat house. When hanging the house it should face south or southeast in cooler climates (like the Adirondacks where we are) and it should be a dark color like black so they can survive the cold winters. The house should be a minimum of 10' high off the ground but if you watch the video you will see why we will need to revisit ours when the snow clears and we have better access! *Affiliate link Single chambered bat house on Amazon https://amzn.to/2q5H06j Read more about bats on our blog at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/blog/bat-house-on-the-homestead Please like and subscribe to stay up-to-date on future videos! OUR WELL RUNNETH OVER - IT’S ARTESIAN!

We had a surprise when we went to do a winter check-up on the homestead... There was water everywhere... ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ Click “Show More” ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ It turns out that we have an artesian well! In case you don't know, what that means is that it flows out of the well from it's own pressure. What a blessing to have this happen after all we went through over the summer to get a well with a decent amount of flow (we drilled the well 680' deep and still had to frack it). A LOW YIELD WELL - Choices To Make!

09:26
We have a decision to make! We were finally able to have our private well drilled. Unfortunately though, we went 680' down and have a water flow of only 1/2 gallon per minute. Now we need to decide what to do. We have three options... The first part of this video is where we are educated about by a gentlemen who has been drilling wells his entire life. We learn about well drilling and pumps (starts at 26 seconds) and the second half is where we (Rich & Kathie) discuss our three options as to what to do about the minimal flow rate (starts at 7 minutes). We can just leave it be and put off more decisions until next year when we have more money, we can use it as is because we have about 900 gallons of water storage, or we can frack it (hydro-frack, hydrofracking, hydraulic fracturing) Decisions, decisions.....but we did make a decision so be sure to check out that video here: https://youtu.be/6vBxvboioac A big thank you to Ron, Paul, and Victor of Sterling Well Drilling. DIY Hollow Log Slice Photo Frame

08:39
In this video I make two hollow log photo frames with canvas prints (link below) of my daughters wedding. If you don't have a hollow log, the center of a wood slice could be cut out with a saw and that would work fine. The hollow log was one of the first trees to be cut down on our Adirondack homestead to make way for our private road so we thought it would be nice, and meaningful, to make frames out of it for ourselves and all our children (So we have two more still to make!). Read more about the hollow logs on our blog at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/blog/hollow-logs-trees-on-our-land We also have several more logs that we intend to make into end tables for the living room so we will be documenting that as well. Using the GORILLA LADDER (MPX22) To Relocate Our Bat House - Works great!

03:06
So we finally purchased some quality ladders. We got lucky one day when we walked into Home Depot and saw the 22' Gorilla Ladder on a special Black Friday deal. In fact, the price was so good that we ended up buying two of them! We bought the last one at the local store and then traveled to another town to buy a second one (we plan on creating scaffolding when we begin building our home). 10 Reasons Why I Let The Milkweed Grow!

03:02
A countdown from ten to one (the most important reason) why I let the milkweed grow in our yard! If you want to grow milkweed, you can purchase seeds at Amazon (affiliate link) here: - 100 Pink Common Milkweed Seeds (Asclepias Syriaca) https://amzn.to/2u5Mpwn And if you want to be able to identify different butterflies, my favorite book(s) is/are by National Audobon (affiliate link): - Field Guide to Butterflies https://amzn.to/2O9LeVw Monarchs are an endangered species and their numbers are declining more every year. It is absolutely true that they only lay their eggs on milkweed and that the caterpillars only eat milkweed. Note that the caterpillars will leave the milkweed when they are ready to find a safe place to pupate. This is why you might find them on other plants around the milkweed (I find them on my apple trees) but be reassured they are not eating that plant! They really truly only eat the milkweed so this is why it is important to keep it growing! The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has been doing studies and you can learn more about "Saving the Monarch" on their site at https://www.fws.gov/savethemonarch/ Thank you to the "U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Conservation Training Center, Creative Imagery" for the beautiful Public Domain Images and Video. HARVESTING HOLLOW LOGS

07:02
We are harvesting and setting the logs to dry out for upcoming projects! ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ Click “Show More” ⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎⬇︎ These logs are extra special because they are some of the first trees cleared from our land when we had our driveway done. We learned that a lot of the trees on our land could be hollow inside and that can be very dangerous (they are weak and be blown down by strong winds). Stay tuned for a video sharing how we can figure out which trees might be hollow inside! We also have a lot of different projects planned to make with the hollow logs one of these days... Our 650' Private Road Is Cleared!

02:59
Our private road/driveway is cleared! That means we have officially started building our retirement homestead! We are so excited! This is a really big endeavor for us as we are building slowly over the next few years so that we can remain debt free when we move there for our retirement (timed to coincide with the final construction of our earth sheltered home). As much as we are DIY'ers this was something we just don't have the time, experience, or machinery for. If we had already begun homesteading we might have done it differently, however we both work full time a good 4.5 hours away from our homestead so we chose to hire out the job. After all, it is 650' long driveway with a culvert and tons of trees! So because of that the driveway and homesite clearing are a pretty big investment to start with but we are looking forward to being able to enjoy time there over the next few summers in our trailer. We were pretty fortunate that the road was already somewhat cleared. We are sharing the first 300' with the snowmobile club for now and the other 350' was an old logging road that we cleared for the ATV last summer. We were lucky it went right to the homesite we chose! The next step is to have the road finished with a road fabric and covered with about 4 inches or so of crushed rock. We are also in the process of getting proposals from engineers to design our septic/leach field. Apparently that is a big deal here in the Adirondack park and needs to be done properly. And then comes the well and underground electric! How much will we do this year? We aren't sure until we find out how much more money we need to save up....LOL. That's why this is going to take a few years to complete! So follow us as we work to complete our retirement homestead dreams :-) Visit our website at https://www.creatingasimplerlife.com/... Refinishing A Rusty Metal Cart

We rescued someone else’s garbage! I just love rescuing someone else’s garbage from the dump or wherever it might go. I love the challenge of refurbishing or repurposing an item.
