Start size = 245mm X 687mm long. Bore at 115mm +0 -1 I rough trepanned bore at 112mm tool and counter bore to 114mm using the same tool with adjusted outer cartridge. 15 carbide inserts used on total length of 2750mm long. Inserts are SANDVIK WCMX 1020 grade.

for SUNPPAA why turning away from the chuck is better.

304 stainless steel. my favourite machine channel asked why i always turn away from the chuck. this forging is 2000mm long and turning towards the chuck would not be possible without using a steady rest which would easy add 2 hours extra time to turn. 7mm cut to remove the scale both ways.

this tool is to hold in a lathe tool post. All parts were made on manual Bridgeport miller, Dean Smith and Grace lathe and a Denham turret lathe by myself. it will cut a 13.25" hole through 20" long steel bar in one pass or 40" long half and half. the core will be 11.5" which can be used to make other things. Lathe chuck jaw safety. over tightening possible dangers. sunppaa.

youtube channel "sunppaa" had a few comments on his videos "daily chatter 36" and 37. myself and others were concerned for his safety tightening down hard on the end of the jaws. it is dangerous as the jaws can break as you can see in this video. imagine one breaking as you start a cut,,, the job would fly out at speed at best missing you,,, at worst hitting you. i have seen it happen before many times. always think "what if" and if you think there could be a bad thing happen DONT do it. we only have 1 life why risk it to save a few moments of time. not worth it. stay safe.

Start size 242mm diameter X 687mm long. Inconel 718 double aged hardened. I bore it first by trepanning a rough hole at 112mm and using the same tool counter bore to 115mm +0 -1mm so finish size is 114mm. Cores returned to the customer are 73mm diameter. CARBIDE inserts are SANDVIK 1020 grade WCMX.

Throwing a bent forged bar to clean up. 7"- 6.75" x 120"long with 1"bend

grade 5 titanium bar over 1" bent. firstly center each end by hand. set in lathe and clock the center of the bar. turn the first half from the center to the tailstock. turn around and repeat. use a 45 degree cuting tool to reduce chatter and vibration.
